i'm not sure if i should just ignore this or raise at next service. i never usually drive above 75mph on my speedo. had new rubber fitted all round last year and full alignment. all has been okay. however i recently, on a section of private road, took her up to 85-90ish and was a bit shocked to get some wheel shake/wobble/vibration. stopped once down to low 80s and below.

what does this indicate? wheel alignment needing done again? possible issue with steering rack/steering components? tyre pressures all checked and don't see any uneven wear.

jokes aside it's not really an issue for me as i tend to be a <80mph driver but slightly concerned in case it indicates an underlying issue that might arise even at lower speeds at some point.

Sounds like balancing. You may have lost a weight. Have you been through any mud recently? I thought I had a major wheel issue a while back, turned out to be a large lump of mud stuck to the inside of the wheel rim...:D

+1 balancing. I had this on mine last year. I had new tyres after a blow out on pot hole. It only appeared at high speed. Thought I'd damaged the wheel and that was causing it, but I took it back to the garage that did my tyres and they rebalanced them. It was fine after that. They said they balance within a tolerance as most cars are fine but sometimes they have problems with a particular wheel or tyre which means the tolerance has to be as close to perfect to stop it which they wouldn't normally aim for as it takes longer amd they lose business

Noticed my cars doing the same when I was hitting 90 on the M25 last night.. I'd put it down to balancing aswell.. had similar problems with previous cars

exactly the same.

took it to a local tyre place to book in who told me it was more likely to be the rears (I always thought steering wheel wobble was from the front only....), anyway, he ran his hands over the rear tyres and said they were knackered but may balance.

Said something about this being common to Leon's/Seat's, you could kinda see the tread was worn in a funny manner hard to explain, it's as if they aren't round anymore more octagonal.

As most of my driving is town, I've opted to not worry about it and when I need to go 80-90, I'll just do 90-100 instead hahahaha

edit, this thread got me googling on the subject of my issue and it may be "sawtoothing" lots of pages about it on VAG cars

Just to add my bit here, I've got this issue on my car too, only at high speed, 70-90mph. Was on a private land, the tarmac was smooth so wasn't that. I'm going to need to get this checked out soon.

interesting replies, thanks guys, good to know i'm not alone! t121anf, i've been through the uneven rear wear thing, was resolved with new tyres and full alignment.

I'll ask them to check balancing when it's in.

location , location
If you have got the saw tooth effect you should hear a droning noise from your rear tyres as well like a wheel bearing , if so swap your rear tyres with your front and it will go.

Tyre's can also go out of shape as they age thanks to our great smooth roads, quite normal for tyres with softer walls..
