Clutch slipping - recommendations?

Hi everyone, my standard clutch has started slipping on my stage 2 Cupra. Looking at different clutch kits and flywheels and not sure what to go for. Don't really want to be spending loads, has anyone used the darkside development clutch and flywheels or do people stick with Sachs/loba/helix?

Do the 02Q kits fit the petrol engines as some sites only list them for diesels?

Thanks

I replaced my clutch and flywheel, have a look on my readers ride thread mate (page 11 onwards I think) wasn't the most expensive option, I stuck with the stock flywheel and Sachs stage 1 clutch.

That's one of the options I was looking at, think it's about £455 for that. I'll have a look now, cheers buddy!

That's about the price of the Sachs SMF kit with organic clutch. Still undecided whether to get just the clutch or change to a SMF, it's about £300 difference for the lot

I personally wouldn't go SMF (although some people have and claim it's not that bad noise wise)

I've heard a LCR at tickover with a SMF and it sounded like it was broken lol, granted they aren't the best sounding cars at tickover but it really doesn't help it in any way.

Funnily enough that's what my mate that works at Revo said, too noisy and to retain the Dual Mass. Just wanted to see the opinions of people on here. Looks like I'll probably go for the Sachs organic clutch and hopefully the dmf will be in good condition.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully get it booked in on my week off, only had it stage 2 about 2-3 weeks so not surprised it's started slipping!

My flywheel was the thing that was goosed, the clutch wasn't totally shot but I had already bought the clutch before I knew that so replaced both parts.

I think there have been a couple people that have replaced the clutch and ended up replacing the flywheel as well, seems they go at the same time.

That's the only bit I'm worried about, if I take the box out at work and end up needing a flywheel too. Probably best to bite the bullet and change it all while I'm in there!

If you can do without the car for a few days then just assume it's the clutch, worst case the fly is pooped and you lose a day or two getting the part, but at least you're no worse off, no point in buying one if you don't need it :)

I was lucky I had other means of getting to work, so other than the extra expense it was no big deal.

Probably wouldn't be able to, don't think they'd be too happy me taking up a ramp at work haha. I do have a spare car to use but I'm quite impatient and like to get it all done in one hit!

I'll have a phone about tomorrow and see if I can get any movement on prices. Darkside do a full kit for £750 but not sure if it's for the petrol engines, just says 02Q gearbox

What setup are you running?

DXD Stage 3 daily, bit overkill for my set up but I always prefer to get the best you can first time rather than having to redo it later

No idea bud, pretty sure they specialise in diesels but they may do stuff for petrol I'm not sure.

Just get the whole lot then, clutch, flywheel and release bearing, no faffing around then :)

Darkside only do diesels but things like mounts and intercooler a are "universal", I'm pretty sure it's the same for the clutch as a few websites list the loba for diesels and petrols.

Either way... Let me know how you get on, I need a new one soon & thinking loba SMF.

I ended up going for the loba/Sachs smf kit, was £860 posted from kris at samtech. Will be fitting it next week so will let you know what it's like after it's bedded in

I got the same kit on my Audi s3 mate :) feels and performs really well, tbh I thought it was very noisy at first but either its gotten quieter after being bed in or I'm just used to it!

But if your going to go big in power I would always suggest going SMF if your after a problem free option.

Wasn't there a thread not so long ago about the SMF conversion not going into gears @ high RPM.

Yeah there is a few posts about it, seems to be people with the earlier Sachs clutches as there has been revisions since addressing that issue. I'll soon find out though haha!
