Worth buying a forum car that has a build history and the major wear items replaced, like bushes etc. Also if you thinking of making modifications, why not find one that has the bits on already? I know that the cars on here (and other) forums are likely to be driven hard at least some of the time, but there's a higher chance of it being properly maintained too. I'd rather have a car that is ragged on occasions, oil changed every 6k miles and pampered than one that goes on the school run, on LL service and 5k per year.

well I went to look at the 93K car and its got a cracked screen and the paintwork is shabby, loads of swirl marks and small scratches everywhere, just looks not very well looked after to be honest. Plus it has a ridiculous massive backbox.

I wanted to go with a dealer so I could look at financing, however I am going to save the money which will give me the flexibility to look more places and hopefully buy one off of here.

I am going to save 2-2.5K and see what I can get

I want a standard car ideally or at least very close to standard

Thanks for all the replies

If you want to get one via a personal sale, see if the seller will accept PayPal, then get yourself a 0% on purchases credit card and pay no interest for say 18 months.
You should cover the PayPal fees, but that will be a lot less than any credit agreement.

Also, my Cupra180 has 145K on the clock, but is rock solid; it’s had loads of work done, some by me, some by my local independent garage and it runs great. It does have a few stone chips, but nothing serious. I treat it better than most people treat new cars!

I’m getting a company car soon (Prius), so I’ll be selling the Cupra and asking about £1200 but taking offers.
I know it’s an 02, and high mileage, but what else could you buy with the Leon’s performance for that money?

I bought my 2004 LCR for £2000 with 138,000. So far I have done turbo gaskets, brakes, coil packs, plugs, strut top mounts, bottom arms, drop links, oil return pipe, fuel filter. It does pee me off a bit but the engine runs sweet as a nut, starts first time every time, no smoke and I have tons of receipts from the previous owner. And the interior is in very good condition. Have a look at my thread in readers rides. Most of my cars I have owned have had around 150,000 miles on and they were all brilliant cars with hardly any problems. Just depends on how they have been looked after. I have a friend who had a bora tdi on 200,000 miles. It had an oil and filter change every year and it ran sweet as a nut.
