hello im looking for some help lol

just got my lovely 56 reg bkd altea pd140 a nice christmas pressie from shark performance
:) now pumping out 170 bhb (gonna dyno test later to confirm) but WOW ...just WOW

only problem i got now is traction lmao .....so im looking into some new rubber, got the bridgestone turanza on at the moment (205/55/r16) fronts are ready but the back still have a good 3-4 mm left

im looking into a set of eagle f1's for some extra grip but was wondering about tire sizes?

im thinking bigger / wider tires will give me more grip ? nothing silly just a little extra to get the power from engine to road and hopefully reduce some of the wheel spin im getting

originally i was thinking il go bigger! so get some 205/60/r16 .....but then seen on google some ppl go wider so 215/55/r16 ...... im at a loss so decided to post here in hope of some help ....

cheers
.Paul.

I dunno , hence the post , 205 to 215 dose seem like a big jump but isn't that measured in mm ? If it is then that would mean 5mm wider either side of the rim ? surely limit would be about 8-10mm ? Making it possible to fit 220+ size ....could be horribly wrong though lol

Didn't think tire choice was an insurance thing?

Just after more grip so eagle f1's are a go , but was just spitballing with regards to tire sizes :)

Fitting different specification tyres is insurance notifiable. If you don't tell them and are involved in an accident then they'll assume the tyres were a contributory factor and void your insurance.

Mine spins up all the time after remap and i have softer pirelli winter tyres fitted which have been on for over a year and wont wear out lol . I fitted fr 17s but it goes better with 16s

Yeah lol I can't keep traction under 2500 rpm :-( ... Well not when I put on the power , a friend of mine has the Ibiza fr 06 with coilovers , and goes on how much better it is over the altea lol. I hope to surprise him once I get the wheelspin under control

Only mods I can think of to help (that don't cost an arm and leg) would be next size up grippy tires , stiffer springs (on rear end at least) and possibly better bushes , and if the price drops a bit , an anti lift kit may help

But one thing at a time , I need tires so that's 1st on my list

Can I suggest if you have too much wheelspin that you maybe aren't using your clutch properly?
Maybe best to work on that rather than changing tyres.

I can spin the wheels in a 800cc Daewoo Matiz if I want - it doesn't mean its too powerful or the tyres aren't appropriate.

If you change the tyres you may need to change the rim size as if the tyre is too wide for the rim the beading may come away and the tyre could come off the rim when cornering. The winter tyres are generally longer wearing due to the pattern and they are a bit harder and harder tyres have a lower coefficient of friction and spin more easily. Grip and traction due to friction forces is given as frictional force = coefficient of friction of the material * the nominal force (weight pushing the tyre onto the road surface.) In theory more weight over the tyre will generate more traction. The reason for wide tyres on race cars is to aid stability with the view to maintain the coefficient of friction parameter and keep the contact patch. If the contact patch is lost then friction and traction is lost.

Tbh you wont stop it spinning up due to the new map and the low end torque . I just pull away as normal without flooring it until its mid revs . My traction light does its nut otherwise lol . Even going round a large roundabout in 2nd and flooring it i get the front spinning even on a hot summers day . Better now ive had winter tyres fitted though even in summer

Don't use the accelerator as an on/off switch, I had a 210bhp touran that could spin up in 4th in the wet if I wanted to, but drive it properly and you could get the power down within reason, it's the torque that spins the wheels not bhp.

Coilovers helped reduce soon as front end didn't lift as much, bigger wheels/tyres will slow you down anyway, heavier and more rolling resistance.

Yeah mine is similar impossible to do a quick get away from traffic lights I got beaten by a people carrier the other day and not a fast one, I just lit the tyres up. Having said that just drive more sensibly especially in the wet. Mine is a fr 170 mapped to 200bhp can't imagine what is is like with even more power. Love it though, managed 60mpg to Wales and back as well!

My mate who is a mechanic has seen a mk 2 seat leon fr 170,where the guy has fitted a vw 4motion parts to it, making it 4 wheel drive, and also lots of engine mods, this is probably the best way forward!
