Hi guys, thought I'd share a few pics and a wee write-up on the two days I spent tidying-up my Leon.
It's a 2004 Cupra 180 which I bought back in July. I don't currently have a RR thread as there are no major updates coming due to me being a first year engineering apprentice which means I'm lacking funds to carry out plans....it's giving me plenty of time to plan though!
As I was on holiday I used a couple of days to travel to the parents house to use their driveway, and I'm pleased to say the weather was kind.
There were a few small jobs I wanted to get done, so here goes.....
One of the few things annoying me since purchase has been the condition of the "Starfish" alloys which have had an awful dull & discoloured finish that I've attempted to sort using multiple methods to no avail.
Last resort was to try my hand at wetsanding.
Gave all 4 wheels a basic wash with AG Shampoo.
Remove wheel.
Wetsand with 1500 paper.
Rinse/dry.
Autosol worked by hand to change from dull to give a nice shine.
SRP by hand to enhance shine.
Poorboys Wheel Sealant applied by hand and buffed, 3 coats.
....and repeat x4. About 2-3 hours work on each wheel.
Typical before/after (back/front)
While the wheels were off I gave the brake calipers a bit of colour.
Wire brushes, various grades.
Alcohol pre-paint wipe.
Red caliper paint/lacquer, 3 coats.
The Clean
The paintwork also got a going-over:
Hand wash, 2 buckets.
Fallout remover.
Larger more stubborn tar spots removed.
Clay.
2 bucket handwash again, dry.
MP.
Wax by hand.
Interior & windows cleaned.
Plastics dressed.
Also fitted a set of aluminium pressed plates which I think are a nice touch.
Products used
AG Shampoo Conditioner
Devils Blood.
AG Tar Remover.
AG Active Insect Remover.
Turtle Ice Liquid Clay Bar.
AG SRP.
AG HD Wax.
Autosol (exhaust tips).
AG Interior Shampoo.
Turtle Ice glass cleaner.
Carplan Trim Black.
Poorboys Sealant (3 coats) on the plates before mounting them.
Not the most high-end of products, but for my budget I'm able to get decent results with these, and I believe a good valet/detail is largely down to technique and proceedure.
Took a few pics on the way home, but darkness was falling so they're not the best.
Comments & constructive critisism welcome
Thanks for looking - I realise it's turned into quite a hefty read
