Hi all,

I'm new to the forum I have a golf mk4 tdi at the min but looking into changing for either a k1 or a mk6 golf Gti,

It's a hard decision for as I have had my beloved golf for 10years!! I've managed to get 220bhp and 360ft lb from the diesel lump but I need more power now :D

My friend has an ed30 mk5 stage 1 and I'm really impressed with the power avalable from the 2.0 turbo and how can handle the power through the front wheels.

I know u guys may all be a it biased towards the Leon but what do u think of the k1's and has anyone tried both mk6 n k1.

Cheers Robbo

K1 will be 300bhp stage 1, GTI will be 260. If you are trying to match the Ed30, I'd go for a K1. Or better yet, go for a Cupra if you can as the K1 is a bodykit that can be retrofitted. Will probably be cheaper that way.

What's the difference between a k1 n cupra, just the body kit? Also would a k1 hold its value better than a cupra?.

Sorry if these are daft questions don't really know anything about the Leons, I've allways been a golf man.

Difference between a K1 and a cupra is basically the bodykit. As far as i'm aware the K1's were only manufactured 2008.

As for value, i'm not sure; i guess it depends on the type of person. Would you want a genuine K1 or have to admit it's a cupra with a bodykit? To some folk paying the extra for a genuine K1 is worth it. I love the K1's but then again i'm still quite young and I like to be different to everyone else on the road but even a nice cupra catches me looking, especially the yellow one's.

I love my K1 and to find one with low mileage is quite hard whereas you'd have more choice if you went for a cupra.

I was looking for a genuine k1 as I thought it would hold its value better like the edition 30 golfs do,

But I didn't realise the only difference was the body kit, I do prefer the look of the k1 (with body kit) so might see what's the price diff between that n one with the kit fitted.

Cheers

Does anyone else immediately think Fr when they see a leon with the bttc kit and not k1?. Great looking cars but not sure on the price tag...

I wanted a k1 but ended up getting a FL cupra, wacked an R spoiler and diffuser on with bcs exhaust and imo think it stands out more.

Can't comment on the gti as never drove one but in no way will you be disappointed if you went for a cupra, love mine to bits

I always think diesel FR because most of them are. Still look great though! I don't think I have ever seen a real K1!

K1 is like marmite really. Personally, they don't float my boat. For what you pay for one, id rather have a nice tidy FL Cupra.

As stated previously, the mk6 Gti will be a nicer car, but less boot space, rear leg room and not as quick / tuneable. FL Cupra All the way for me.

K1 all day long. The engine in the Leon is tried and tested.
Engine in mk6 Gti tried and failed timing chain tensioners, if you want a £3000 repair bill every 30k then go for it.
Had a mk6 gtd same spec but diesel terrible quality plastics and creaks and squeaks.
Not a patch on the wife's mk2 leon FR with the same engine.
