All the Golf's times were set in the wet, too!

Guess that's exactly the point with 4wd cars, unless extremely overpowered they simply feel slower and you really need to push the to loose the image of control over safety (I drive a 400bhp awd and always need a reference to make me realize how fast it is, without this the average speed always is a lot above that of an equally powered fwd car.
They are both good cars but the golf irl will be quicker unless the cupra is taken to track under perfect circustances (but slower or not the cupra would be my choice).

I don't think we can use the 280 sub 8 lap into account, seat made a big deal out of it and spanked it round constantly and made modifications to get it round. Did vw even go themselves, or change the tyres etc, reason I assume this is doesn't the gti come in at roughly the same time?

Well I can hear the wheels are spinning slightly going from 3rd to 4th gear in the dry and it's worse when the roads are damp, so the thought of an extra 70 ponies and who knows how much extra torque seems rather ridiculous. Can't see any point in getting a car that can't transfer the power it has to the road and then giving it more.

Lol..there's a surprise!! You have yet another issue...just change the car and save u a!l!!!lol!!

Just to add to the argument...

Might as well add these to the pot

Well yes, God save us all, may he save all us car forum fools from our silly arguments :)

In Sims defence, I have read a couple of really bad reviews on here about the cupra, is it not possible that there are a few bad eggs out there and that sim is just unfortunate to have one? They are assembled in spain lets not forget.

Ergo, should we not be more sympathetic to his plight, plus what would this site be if every thread was "Picked up my Leon and I want its babies" for example...

I do have some sympathy, coming from an LCR to a Cupra, and, although the GF loves this one already, I'm a slow adopter. Yes, ( and I have said this before) the 280 is faster, handles better and puts the power down ( in the Cupra mode) better than the R. However, I think the R was more 'fun' , probably in the same way that a holiday hire is the fastest car you'll ever drive. I liked the raw edginess of the R, the twitching, the noise, the fact that it was ALWAYS in R mode, felt like it was going to bite you leg off.
Bit like a woman, the Mk3 is the one your mother would want you to marry, the Mk2 R is the one your mother always warned you about... ( but bloody good fun all the same.... ) :D

its not very good tbh, I manage to launch better manually

I think by the contents of several of your posts you are a progressive driver, like me, and don't just give it full gas in low gears, but allow the feel of the tyres grip to guide you.

So I think you are right, it might help someone with no feel to get a quick time, but I will give it a go once the weather improves just to see.

And I think that on the borders roads in the dry (I take no chances in the wet) no Golf R 7 would keep up with me, unless the blue flashing light came on.

No, I'm talking about their full road tests and the Golf beat the Cupra on almost every timed distance they cover in these tests. Examples:

0-60 4.8 vs 5.9
0-100 12.0 vs 13.6
80-100 in 4th gear 4.3 vs 4.6
40-60 in 4th 3.5 vs 3.9 etc etc

All the Golf's times were set in the wet, too!

The only place the Cupra wins is the dry handling circuit, but it was still raining when the Golf went round. The Cupra beat the M135i on the dry circuit by half a second, too.

That's a slow 0-100 time for a Cupra imo.

I've got better.. With my MK2 FR TDI and MK2 LCR I was power...power...power...wheelspin....wheelspin

Jordi Gene taught me alot about this car when I was out with him though :)

Yeh sounds good, I got some on track lessons at knockhill circuit back in the 90's and also SEAT used to have customer days there too, which I attended (were free) and they changed the way I drive (and ride) for the better.

Just travelled home from work... Stopped in the Shell garage..pulled out and accelerated as quickly as possible in paddle mode.. 0% wheelspin ;)
