Airflow both in and out of the cooler is vital, make sure there is nothing preventing the air escaping at the back of the cooler and you should have some kind of ducting/shroud to direct air from the bumper in to the cooler

I've got the Cupra front bumper which is not ideal for the side mount, so I'm aware that flow will be slightly restricted but I'm not the first to have put this bumper on and no one else seems to have this problem. The shroud doesn't fit behind the new bumper so I have to keep the fog light out which looks more than enough for air flow in. Air flow out on the other hand is restricted to small slots in the wheel arch so that might need cutting open more.
I will strip the pipe work before cutting I to the bodywork though or just go with an airtec front mount kit

Making more sense now, it seems your IAT is likely to be accurate and is down to lack of airflow.

A shroud is vital for the SMIC otherwise airflow will flow around the cooler rather than through it (path of least resistance), especially if airflow from the rear of the cooler is restricted.

Unless there is visible damage to the core (blocked fins) then stripping the pipework won't achieve anything. Either work to improve airflow or a Front mounted Intercooler to suit your choice of bumper is needed.

Ah right yeah that does make sense, I got rid of the shroud when the bumper went so I will have to buy a front mount. Cheers for all your help guys!
I will aim to buy the cooler asap and will keep this updated!

Hi

I have the same problem with mine, Leon pd130 with cupra front bumper.

Have you got to change the intercooler?

I recently bought an airtec front mount cooler for my car but not got round to fitting due to weather and work. Should be done this weekend if all plans go ahead and I will post my results as soon as I know.
Good to know I'm not the only one suffering from this

I have PD130 stage 1 custom mapped and I could get my intake temperature up to 90 degrees in the summer, so it's not that unreasonable if you have less flow through the cooler.

So to anyone that's interested, I fitted an Airtec Frint mount intercooler and piping kit. Fitted well with a few cut outs from the bumper.
I took it out for a run and let the car get up to temperature and then plugged in VCDS. Ran the car at normal driving and also ripping it along some roads, at redline the air intake temp hit 26'C so this is a massive improvement! Really chuffed with how better the car feels aswell as the power doesn't decrease the longer I drive!

Missed this update. Great news, the car will feel totally different to drive no doubt.

Cheers guys :D
It took about 5 hours all in, that was cutting the bumper as well, didn't feel like that long though!

Yea the car feels more responsive but there is more turbo noise, not sure if it's a small leak I'm hearing aswell... Will have to investigate.
The car hasn't been any more smokey but I've noticed better fuel economy which is always a bonus
