Metal piece around rear brake disk is loose!

Hi,

I've just cleaned my car and found that this piece of metal is loose. It has been making a noise whilst driving but I thought nothing of it! Anybody know what it is and what it does? Do I need to get it sorted as a matter of urgency?

Sounds like you are talking about the shield behind the disc.
Its not an essential part, just there to protect the disc but they are liable to trap stones and cause screeching.
If you cannot see how to secure it, you can either remove it properly by removing the disc or you can cut them away too apparently.

Had this on my old e46 was a nightmare of a job but ended up removing disc and taking it away!
