Hi,
I'm getting a check third brake light on my dash. however its working and i dont see any bulbs gone out.

Question is, how do i remove the third brake light out to check?

I removed the two rubber hole from the inside and tried either lifting or pushing the clip with a small flat bed screw driver but it wont come out.
Anybody done this before and able to tell me some tricks to remove the brake lights so i can check or replace the bulbs?

Thanks
Will

Looks like you're doing it right. Below are the removal instructions from ElsaWin for the high level brake light (you will need to click the picture header to make it large enough to read). Maybe you just need to use a bit more controlled force. I believe it's a sealed unit so if any of the LEDs have failed I think you will just have to get a complete new replacement unit.

Thanks for your reply.
Yeah i tried to put abit more force into it when i got frustrated with it but in a way trying not to snap or break the clip. Still wont budge.
I'll try again tomorrow..

Thanks for this, that's the only diagram I have found and gave me confidence to then just lever it out. Thought dealer had given me wrong replacement as old part was in two but the new one is a combined sealed unit and all works.

Apologies for digging this back up, but I've looked at the diagram in this thread, but can't see a clip. Also, is the diagram backwards, cause I have the wiring in the left hole?

I remember on VCDS I disabled settings so that the vehicle doesn’t check for dead bulbs on certain lights. If you have VCDS maybe you could simply disable the check, assuming that the light is working fine.

I’m having the same problems, it seems the only way to remove it is by smashing it out, breaking all of the clips etc. There’s s clip in the middle which you cannot get to, It’s the most stupid design I’ve ever seen. On the polo’s you only need a plastic wedge which slides in from the outside and makes the unit pop right out.
