So my cambelt decided to snap today. Am I right in thinking it's an interference engine ? I've had just about enough of this car. Do I repair or break it ?
Haven't done anything other than remove cambelt cover and crank engine, bottom end moves, top end doesn't lol. It's just been dumped on the driveway after getting recovered by the AA
Think I'm gonna get mine done at seat After seeing this... would rather pay the £430 or whatever it is for the belt and water pump and it comes with 5 years warenty... **** to hear it's happened to you though...
Unfortunately if you've been cranking the bottom end and its not connected to the top chances are something is bent (if it wasn't already)
Plenty of engines floating about nowadays if you have the inclination to swap it out
Do you guys reckon it's cheaper to replace the engine that it is to take the head off, and start replacing valves ? Is it just an excuse to fit a super tech valve train ??
Well it should have lasted to the end of 2015. Genuine belt kits will last at least 5yrs between recommended changes.
Saying that though, my dad had an A6 once that was done at an independent (i guess non gen parts) and that lasted 4 yrs 10 mths and snapped
SEAT took the recommended interval down from 5 to 4 years quite a while ago
It would be much cheaper to buy another engine and just swap it out, especially if youre quite good with the spanners and can do it yourself
Cheapest way would be source a 2nd hand engine. Might even be an oppurtunity to fit upgraded rods into the new engine and go stage 2+ maybe if thats something u want in the future.
If it was me in this situation i would buy a cheap banger to run around in while I saved up enough money to buy an engine and upgrade internals. I spose it boils down to what the car means to you etc...
Either way sorry to hear its happened i had a cambelt snap on my first car years ago and it was gutting....
yeh far easier and cheaper to swap out the engine, especially as you have turned it over after the belt has snapped if it didnt have bent valves before it most certainly will now
