Hi, im looking to buy a MK2 FR but really want xenons and they seem like a a very rare option. I was wondering if I buy the genuine xenon unit from a dealer if I could just buy a HID kit and if they would work ok and still give me the "eyeball" look?

Thanks

I had the HID kit on my last Leon and the problem I had was that because the box didn't fit in the headlight you have to cut the plastic cap. This causes the headlight to fog up and makes the light not as bright, also doesn't look very nice

Personally mate, just get some good bulbs and save your money for something else. I have HIDs as standard and find the lighting substandard compared to good aftermarket bulbs. My lights in my Golf were far better and they were aftermarket Philips bulbs. I have even turned my beam up manually to get a better forward projection but I have to keep edging it down as it dazzles oncoming traffic and now I'm almost back at the point before I altered them and I still occasionally get flashed. Okay, they look nice from the outside, but surely your better off having good night vision as opposed to having nice looking lights. All my opinion though mate as I'm sure some will disagree.

I agree my OE xenons are okay but not brilliant, my halfords Brilliant Blue (actually white not blue) H4 bulbs in 20 year old MR2 are easily as good.

Best thing about the OE Xenons is the look they give the front of the car (when off) and the Adaptive lighting when they turn with the wheels, which works really well.

Get yourself some decent aftermarket H7s much better bet IMO.;)

Yeah it's mainly the eyeball look that I want just for how it sets the car off!

Kazand: Id love to but a normal cupra is still 2 grand insurance :(

I've got an FR+, I wasn't aware that they can with all the toys when I got it as I didn't go out to buy a Leon, saw it in a showroom, test drove it, loved it, bought it, and never looked back.

I'm a big fan of the xenons and think they work really well, shine a lot of light, especially on full beam, thought I must say I did used to own a Vauxhall that had the equivalent of two candles on the front!

Jeez that's steep I only pay £250 fully comp with protected no claims.

That was for the R with Admiral. Postcodes don't help, GF works in an area common for 'bash for cash' claims, and our home p/code is a bit dicey too. Now got it down to £300ish.

Wow. 500 quid saved in 24 hours! Not bad going mate haha :fool: .I paid 375 and 99 for the breakdown cover for both of us and both cars.

Retrofitting Xenons seems to be a lot of hassle and money, I would live to myself but would rather spend the money on other things.

A set of aftermarket headlights with retrofitted bixenon projectors would do you just fine. Stick a set of Hids in and you're all sorted. As Jarre says, about £250 for straight forward ones.

I know a man that can....and is local (ish) to you! ;)
