Exhaust mod

I've recently just bought a mk4 seat Ibiza. The car is relatively old yet in good shape. I am not looking to spend much money at all on the car and was wondering are there any modifications that I can do to create a better sounding and slightly deeper exhaust. I am not interested in changing the exhaust as this is more of a project to see what can be done. If anyone has any ideas that would be a great help. Ps. I'm pretty new to working with cars so simple answers are appreciated. ap

Depends whether its petrol or deisel.

You can change the air filter to get a deeper sound but best to get a different exhaust

The car is a petrol , and I am wanting to change the sound without changing the exhaust

Air filter / induction kit will give it more of a groan but thats about it.

Cut the centre/back box out (depending how loud you want it), that's about it without replacing it...

I've heard about drilling holes in the back of the muffler, is this a good/bad idea ?

Or replacing the middle muffler with a piece of straight pipe ?

drilling? bad idea.
centre box replaced with a straight pipe would work fine.

I think drilling would make it sound awful, cutting the centre box out is almost free if you do it yourself.

Very cheaply done at exhaust places too.

If you are going to drill anything , you may as well cut off the back box !! Will sound awful .

What sort of sound would removing the centre box sound like ?

Loud and throaty I would imagine, have a look on YouTube at drilling your air box too, cheaper than buying an air filter or induction kit

Took the centre box out of the mrs' type r a few weeks back (it was blowing so thought may aswell), didn't really change the sound much... Bit deeper and louder but not hugely noticeable.
