Hi, I'm currently insured with Greenlight and have been for a few years, but now I want to add my girlfriend to the policy as an additional driver, she is 22 and been driving for 5years but they have said they can't insure her because she hasn't got any experience of driving a more powerful car (mine is a 57reg Cupra with just a map, and hers is an Alfa MiTo 155bhp).

They also said they only make exceptions sometimes for 40+ year olds with no experience.

I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar situation and can recommended any other companies other than searching the Meerkats etc.

Thanks
Lee

Do they need proof of what cars she has been insured on before like?

How else would they know?

I presume so, wouldn't be hard for them to check with previous insurers I suppose if they needed to.
Can get insured from Admiral/Bell for a decent price just wondered if there were any specialist insurers to try

Sounds like cobblers to me. I'd ditch them for that just on principle.

The MiTo 155 is powerful enough to get in a lot of bother quite easily. Not that long ago it would have been considered a fast car so I would press them harder.

I guess you're in a contract with them so she won't be able to drive your motor until you leave them. Does your girls' insurance state anything about driving other insured cars 3rd party? Not the greatest situation if it does, but at least she gets to drive it

Check brentacre, they were very accomodating and helpful with me. They are super mod friendly also.

I've told them I'm not renewing, it runs out on Sunday.

Cheers I'll give Brentacre a try I used to have a car with them.

Admiral/Bell gave me a decent price just on a quick quote I did but thought I'd try other "specialist" insurers as well

Thanks lads

No normally not insured 3rd party on other cars till 25, we've got a house together now so wanted to get it sorted properly.

Both my car are through Brentacre and I think they are brilliant, the lads/lass's know there cars and take interest in what you have. In total I've been with Brentacre for a total of about 6 year with 3 different cars.

Adrian flux managed to knock £200 off my policy as I had previous history with them on modified cars. And thats with my missus on the policy.policy is 2 month old

Back when we where your age I added my wife to my C2/gti-r policy and it knocked £400 offer my premium

She was insured on a Toyota Yaris 1.0.

Ring around if they don't want your business ,someone will

Can recommend Chris Knotts, they have no problem with modified cars and having multiple people on the policy.

Could have added my Mrs onto the policy no problem. She drives a Toyota Yaris so obviously not powerful but she doesn't want to drive mine so didn't bother.

They also give a discount on top of what I think are very good prices to seatcupra.net members

As others have said you need to ditch your current provider as what they are saying is absolute bo%%ocks

Tried Adrian Flux yesterday, came back with a stupid price and didn't like there way of trying to sell me the policy before giving me the overall cost.

Will try Brentacre and Chris Knott in the morning, if not it'll be via a comparison site

+1 for Chris Knott, they did a great deal on previous LCR when GF finally realised Admiral were taking the pi55, best price on current Cupra too. Nice to deal with, know their stuff too. :)
