Always lurking this forum... oilman recommended a 5-40 for my lcr millers nanotech or something it was... £45 for 5l with 1l free but made my engine a little quieter and supposedly can increase power output... not sure how but fast car did 2 dyno with a focus St and it increased bhp by like 4 I think somehow (possibly such a small increase could be down to other factors but I like it so far)
Mines run on Mobil 1 life fully syn 0 40 from day one (2005) and several people and garages have been stunned at how clean the engine internals are, I change my oil every 5000 miles too.
I'd also like to know the answer to this question! Am i right in saying if the car is no longer under warranty its ok to use "better oils" than the vw 502/504 spec as per the manual?
I've got a Leon sx 1.6 16v and was planning to do an oil change using Silkolene PRO S 5W-30 Ester Synthetic. Can anyone advise if i shouldn't attempt this and why?
I have been using castrol edge 5w30 for the last 90000 miles, it's 507.00 so better spec than the 5w40 505.01 that's recommended. The nanotech oil looks interesting, but I would like to see the results against a quality oil like castrol edge or mobil1 rather than a value brand oil.
