Hi there,

When I bought my Toledo CR 1.6tdi, one of the plus points was that it had a longer life cambelt interval than I had previously had on both my 2lt and 1.9 pd engines. The 2lt/1.9lt were around 40k/4 years, and the 1.6lt CR being 140k/5 years, this was confirmed, in an e-mail, by SEAT UK.

Just had my Toledo serviced at 55k, by local dealer, and they have said that the cambelt replacement is due !!!! My car is just over 27 months old.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm the sort of person who will play ultra safe in these sort of matters, and change well in advance, but this seems to fly in the face of the SEAT UK recommendations, with the info they supplied I was looking at a change at around 80k or so. Ironically, I did actually go for the SEAT over a chain driven Honda CDTI on the basis of the belt life of the new CR engines.

The main question I have is, the car is warrantied until March 2016, so what would the situation be if the belt went during the SEAT warranty period, and within the SEAT UK recommended interval, but against the dealer recommendations ?

Oh, and what do other owners with this engine regard as the cambelt interval ? Looking on different sites, there seems to be a huge difference in what owners of AUDI/SEAT/VW/Skoda are being told, re cambelt change. Its the same engine regardless of the car it's fitted too, so is it right to assume it's dealer driven !!!!!! That's a bit naughty if that's the case, as it's the same power unit, with a 140K change interval.

Thanks

seems no one knows what the script with belt change intervals is.

personally a safe bet would be to change it at circa 80k a or 5 years.

All the Toledo taxis my company run are all changed at 80k. I'll be doing my own belt at 60k however then every 40k like you used to. I don't care what the manufacturer says the belts are still made the same so perish the same way.
