This will test your ibiza knowledge !!

ive got a bad knocking noise on any road surface that isn't perfect. Had new bushes all round, new arb new droplinks and still it bangs!

I would double check the tightness of the droplinks again.

Guys! Mine does have the plastic arb stops, driver side has broken allowing the Arb to move a whole inch! Besides the point though, I disconnected the arb altogether & went for a drive & it still bangs. I thought could it be the wheel bearing? But then youd think it'll make a bad humming noise? But it doesn't. Next thing I'm going to try is a whole n/s off another ibiza. Mainly the hub

It's not your wheel bearing. Have you fitted the ARB back on with new bushes and links?

I've looked at every thing engine mounts seem fine too. Last thing I can think is the hub bolts because your meant to change them once you take them off and I've reused so will try them next week

Which hub bolt(s) are you referring to?

This might sound daft but its worth a check, make sure all the subframe bolts are still there and tight, mine knocked like hell because a bolt went missing!

This is a must - Stick the car up in the air - grab a hold of a 18 or 19mm and check the subframe bolts are tight!

Changed the hub today with no luck. Got 3 lads to push up & down on n/s front to try & hear it bang. Sounds like it's coming from the top mount but that's brand new. I wonder if the spring is fouling on something?

When you push it up & down do you hear the noise?

Your issue shouldn't be difficult to resolve, just be patient and make sure you check everything PROPERLY.

Hi mate well when we pushed up and down on te car I could hear a slight knocking noise but nothing compared to driving the car.

Iv done a quick search and found that someone's top mount was nackered & thy bought a new one for it to bang still, swapped it for another old one off another car & stopped the noise! It's defo coming from around the top mount area.

& I have bought new arb bushes just have not fitted them yet. ( I disconnected the arb completely & test drove the car. Still made the noise

turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock both sides with the bonnet open and try hear for a noise - if you hear something clicking or knocking then change that top mount.

Il give It a go. Next thing I'm going to do is swap the shocks over next time I have the front end apart. Then il know for sure if it is the suspension.

Il try what u suggested & il get back to u

Thanks

FIGURED IT OUT GUYS!!

I swapped the suspension over and it's now banging my side lol but, it's a brand new top mount and brand new damper. Maybe a dud top mount :/

Hmm may well be but my guess is the top mount. I'll change that first as it's the cheaper option then if not, il change the damper

Well your damper will be out to change the top mount anyway...take the spring off and push down on the damper, it should only move with a decent force applied, if it pushes in too easily or doesn't return to equilibrium easily then throw it away.

I'll have to check mine hope that's what it is!

Also when I drop off a curb slowly I can hear the body flexing?

As far as I'm aware! Though it's all been changed but the noise does seem to be low down around subframe area

The damper is ok as I did this check you recommended when it arrived.

Do you know the part no for the top mount I tried to look on ecp but the pictures only show the ring (bearing)

Do I not need the whole lot?

Veyron where abouts are you mate

If I'm free over the weekend I can pop over if u like

Two brains are better than one as they say!

Just double check you've checked all these:

Wheel bearing
Drop link
Track rod end
Bottom ball joint
Console bush
Suspension top mount
Driveshaft nut is tight & no play

Is it just over bumps & stuff or do u get the noise when you steer/brake

Wondering if you guys ever fixed this, or if you just ditched your cars?

I've changed everything, and I mean everything on the drivers side on mine.

Spring
Damper
Top mount
Wishbone + console + front + rear bushes and new stretch bolts.
Track rod inner AND outer.
Ball joint
CV Joint
ARB bushes
Drop links
All engine mounts

Did the work myself so I know it's all nice and tight and torqued to spec.

To be fair it all needed done anyway at 85k but it still rattles/bangs when I go over bumps when turning. :wtf:

Thanks for responding even though you don't have the car.

Interesting. It does sound like the noise is coming through the steering column. Not sure I want to throw another few hundred quid at it, plus lying on the driveway in this weather. There may be a Mk5 in my future..
