So after recently breaking my phone and losing all my pics of the cupra and the work done so far I decided it's time to start a thread incase it happens again!

I bought the cupra back in July after sticking a bid down on it on the bay and not really expecting to win. Went to fetch it the following Sunday not really knowing what to expect and after a 8 hour round trip I couldn't have been happier with it. Going from driving a 65bhp polo daily to whipping back from the south in a 195bhp cupra you can imagine how big the smile on my face was.

On the way home with the polo:

After I stopped driving it and got it home I realised how much of a shed it actually was. It had been resprayed in a candy red colour but only an outer shell respray, the springs had been cut, engine was squeeking from somewhere, tyres were bulged and bald, radio didn't work and the list continues but if I carried on this would be a what's wrong with my car thread and not a build thread.

Despite the downfalls it did come with some goodies:
Borbet A's (wrecked however)
Forge boost pipe
Full stainless decat system
Forge 007p
Aftermarket cone filter
Uni fmic with silicone piping
Mapped to 195 brake and 230 pounds (with readout)
Nomad pillar
Heko deflectors

Because of its history (10 previous owners, 121k miles) and the state of the rest of the car I decided to go all out on it which will include an engine rebuild, full respray ect...

So first things first I gave it a wash (pics are all from friends after losing mine so sorry for lack of photos)

Soon after this me and a friend began to strip the interior out (headlining and pillars) not for any particular reason just because at this point I wasn't really sure what I was doing.

Next I began to take off the front end ready to get the engine out. As it stands now it has no radiator, intercooler, slam panel, bumper but the only pic I have is from halfway through

Since having the cupra I was on the lookout for some decent wheels for it as I hated the Borbets and finally came across some comps
The borbets:

As it stands:

The comps could do with a refurb but they came with brand new nankangs all round so I was pleased.

I planned to paint the interior pillars satin black one day but the same day my bed sheet came for the headlining retrim so a friend and I got busy and 4 hours later...

In the future I'll try not to lose my pics cus I know you guys love plenty of pics. More to come soon...

I like the head liner, always a fan of something a bit different. Lookin good, and I agree, the Borbets aren't my choice of wheels either.

It is a nice colour but it's been sprayed badly so nah it won't be staying that colour. Whoever had it before me obviously wanted to be Dan watts because it's the same colour!

Shame cos it looks fantastic in that colour and don't see to many around in it. Great colour when polished up and in the sun

So yesterday was a very important day indeed. Was supposed to start work on the car early in the morning but my good friend Ed and I didn't get down and dirty till one so we finished a lot later than we thought, but the end product was still the same and the engine came out.

Didn't go too bad apart from a few little niggles.

After undoing the front mount we thought the rest of the mounts plus the drive shafts would still be enough support but we were wrong. This resulted in the engine dropping a tad and ripping the positive feed out the starter.

After learning from our mistakes and banging the crane on had a go at undoing the drive shafts from the box. Passengers side came off easy drivers side however was a right arse. Not only do they make it almost impossible to get to the nuts, the grommet is also in the way, so after rounding off a couple of bolts we decided to take it off at the hub which also revealed the disc wasn't even screwed on which isn't what you wanna see after driving in it for 5 hours.

Messed about with trying to get the exhaust off for a bit before realising how it's actually done. We had undone it here...

Before realising it needed unbolting further down on like a big sphere bit. Anyone care to tell me what the big sphere bit is or what it's for?

Eventually in the dark the engine came out and was shoved in the garage ready for disassembly and the rebuild

Nice car i really like that colour it suits the mk3 ibiza so well.
That grub screw that holds the disc on isnt actually needed as when the wheel goes on its held on by the four wheel bolts, the screw just makes life easier when refitting wheels.
Ahh good bit of knowledge there mate didn't think of it like that

Love threads like this! Subscribed.

I'm a big fan of the comps.

A 20 v turbo rebuild is still on my to do list lol! Maybe one day. Are you going for any upgraded parts or just standard?

Going for coated shells and forged rods. Don't reckon forged pistons will be of any use to me so that's a miss. Your profile says you drive a s14, stuff a 1.8t if that's true!
