I have been driving a Golf GTE for 5 days and was admiring the high res screen in it. Save me searching does the new MY16 standard head unit have a better resolution?

When I went back to my cupra the screen looked so 90's :)

Yes I believe it does, my dealer informed me recently that all the newer builds have the larger and higher resolution option now as standard, although I don't know if it's as clear as the Golfs.

Maybe he was just talking about the FR's. Hmmm. Guess I haven't really answered your question in the end then!

Was having a look at one this weekend actually, it was miles better than the unit in my '13 plate Leon. I've no idea if it is as high res as the Golf, all I know is that I would be much happier with that and Android Auto combined as opposed to what I have now.

Would love to have a go in a GTE. How was it?

It s a lovely car. It drives beautifully, so smooth. The way VW has integrated the electric motor and the TSI engine is a work of art. The one and very major problem with the car is that the battery capacity is tiny. If you drive on all electric it realistically lasts for around 15 miles. It only takes 3 3/4 hours to charge on a domestic socket though.

If you run it on hybrid the petrol engine is used a fair bit so fuel consumption is nothing to write home about.

In GTE mode its pretty fast, not at Cupra level but fast enough. Handling is reasonably good but again not cupra level.

Overall, I loved driving it. Would I choose it over my cupra. No. Would I buy one for my wife so I could drive it when I felt like it. Absolutely.

If you live in London and like a very nippy car its a no brainer.
