Hi mate, I've got a miltek cat back non resonated on standard exhaust and it sounds good when booted but quiet when town driving.
I've heard that if you have a straight through pipe then it will pull oil through the turbo !!
Also with the new MOT regs then if you remove a part of the emissions system then it's a fail

cut out the back box tonight and it sounds quite good and pulls a bit better. Any more info on oil being pulled from the turbo. got me worried now haha. ive kept the old back box anyway so it can be welded back on at any time.

I wish people would stop giving incorrect information with regards to removing the cat on diesels. It is NOT a MOT failure for the mk1 Leon TDi.

Diesels are not tested on emissions so it would be impossible for it to fail on that. They are smoke tested so shouldn't even fail a smoke test when not under load.

From my understanding ( I maybe wrong ) it can fail on it not being there.
My lc past emissions with a decat , but they failed it as 'visually' it wasn't there .
My guessing dervs maybe different , but surely you can't have one rule for one and another rule for another ??
Like I say I maybe wrong .
Maybe someone could shine some light on the subject .

The visual test is for newer diesels equipped with dpf's. I think there are a lot of confused testers out there, either that it trying to make a few quid by adapting the rules to suit.

my brothers the mot tester....

Anyway if anyone has any information about the turbo oil seals with a full straight through that would be great.

I ran my cupra tdi with full magnex and cat removed for 30k - passed MOT no problem and never created an issue with the turbo oil seals !
WTF did you get that from???

Oh and BTW it ran hybrid with custom map 425lbft....

Did you have a back box? Apart from the reply left on this thread i've only heard that running a tdi without a back box and a cat will damage the turbo oil seals one other time but wanted to be sure that there wouldn't be a problem.

Depends how worn your turbo is. It's the lack of back pressure that 'can' pull the oil through the seals. On a healthy turbo I wouldn't worry about it. Also darkside sell a restricted banjo bolt which will also reduce the oil being pulled past the seals.

my turbo has play but doesnt touch the housing at any angle. it also moves back and forth and ive got no history of the turbo being changed or rebuilt at any time. running quantumn longlife III on 176k

Tbh if you're on that mileage with possibly the original turbo then you've got nothing to lose as it will more than likely go pop at some point in the not too distant future anyway

Never heard of straight through pipe pulling oil through, was told that dervs dont have back pressure too???

had my straight through for years and other than it droning sometimes (down to Red poly bush dog bone mount) don't have any problems, 3" downpipe into 2.5" straight through Milltek with GTB2260.

Also passed MOT with no problems albeit at my local friendly garage...

explain the drone you have. i have a yellow polybushed dogbone and have a drone between 1800-2500 rpm and 1/2-full throttle.

exactly what you have, didnt really do it before i fitted the dogbone, my mate has the yellow one fitted and he's OK so i'm going to fit it as well and see if it's any better
