You're right. I was wrong. I just looked in the documents that came with my car and it states 2 year SA from first registration date. I guess I should have looked at that before.

At least I didn't waste £40 last year when I took out European breakdown cover.

That's why the free AA cover for booking a service online starts at end of Y2, you get a litre of oil at Y1.

True, but remember though doesn't have to be booked on line, mine never have been always booked over phone.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but been for 1st service today and thought I would check the position with the dealer. They confirmed that (as the SEAT website states) to get the cover extension after 2 years you must make a booking through the online system.

They recommend booking a date/time online for the basic service to secure the cover then giving them a ring (if necessary) to chat about any particular concerns etc.

Must be confusing for dealers also. My local SEAT dealer also has the Skoda franchise - they come with 3 years cover but (I was told) don't get the extension for having a franchise dealer service.

Meppershall Beds.
confusing. I phoned dealer for my second service week before Xmas (car now 2 years old), and had a mail yesterday confirming that I have a 3rd year of the very comprehensive assistance cover.
so it doesn't seem necessary to book online....

This saves creating a new thread, I had my 1st variable service back in Dec, received email yesterday saying 1 years Roadside assist which is great as nothing mentioned on website or when booking variable service (its mentioned for fixed service though)
How ever it runs for 1 year from when car serviced, but car still covered by 2 year policy till March 2016 , they did this when our ibiza was serviced & refused to tag new policy onto original policy, I have emailed them, but wont hold my breath.

had first hand experience of seat assist when i broke down last june - oil light came on as PDI check hadn't been done

AA - utter crap they were not interested in fact i was on side of a motorway

Personally would stick with RAC used them for years - when this happened id kept my personal membership on - called them, arrived within 20 minutes - thats what you call proper service

Quick update, had a call from Seat UK, because the breakdown policy you get with service is different to the new car one (this is the only reason they gave) they cannot tag it onto original new car policy once expired, complete joke.

This thread prompted me to check mine. It seems that the 'free' breakdown cover is only applied to cars using the fixed service plan. Cars on a variable/long life regime aren't included in this promotion.

FWIW the selling dealer said the car also needs to be booked in online too.

Mine expires in Feb and I'm going to take out cover with GEM.

Sorry to sound ignorant, my car has it so it only needs a service every 2 years or 18 months, so would i not have the chance to get assist cover?

According to my dealer, no you wouldn't be covered. Assistance is only provided when you're car is on a fixed service regime.

I'm on 2 years/18-20k and aren't covered.

However I only took my car in for it's first service at the dealer and thought I'd be covered for the additional year, going by what I read on this forum. I wasn't my cover ran out in December when my car was two years old. No additional cover was added to my car after it's first (variable) service in Feb '15.

I've just had the car serviced by an indy specialist and taken out top level road side cover with GEM today. The combined cost of both was £219, still cheaper than paying for a dealer service and getting the 'free' roadside assistance.

You still get it booking directly with the dealer. You get an email from Seat after the service.

How long after you get the car serviced does it take Seat to get in touch? I asked at the dealership and they said must be booked online which having read the threads on here told them that was a load of .ollo..s, hope I'm not disappointed:(

I am getting rather tired of all this nonsense about what we get and what the dealer gives and lalalala.

Starting to think that owning a SEAT is a mugs game based on level of support.

I have my car on flexible high mileage service and it gets a service each year at around 18k miles which I pay a fortune for. On my first service I paid for new tyres and a full alignment check and got my 'free' litre of oil. Has my car been covered by SEAT roadside assistance in its second year? I have no bl**dy idea as I never got any paperwork from the steeler either way.

Question, my car is coming up to two years old in 3 weeks, my service light hasn't yet come on. Do I book it on its purchase anniversary or wait for the service light?

At two years do I need to take out AA cover?

Aardvark I would say yes to both, as it is usually the anniversary of 2 years and 20k miles in the case of a fixed service regime but as has been discussed on this thread you don't get the roadside assistance after two years if you are on variable service, roadside assistance is for 2 years as stated in the user manual supplied with the car at purchase, at least that's the way I read it.......I may be wrong!!!!!
