Clutch replacement question

My car has a high bite and the mechanic who serviced thethe car suggested the clutch needs replacing as it's the original and has done 170k miles. Taken the car for a clutch replacement only for the garage to call up and say it's slipping because oil is leaking from the gearbox on to the clutch. I told them it wasbt slipping. It just had a high bite. I asked if they ruptured the seal when removing it which they naturally denied..
Now I have to pay labour to put it togehter again. And risk driving with oil all over the clutch. And rebook the job back in..

Does this sound feasible that the gearbox could be leaking and has been for sone time? (Gear changes are smooth) or has the mechanic broken something?

Some garages take the piss!! Oil leak usually is from vvt region going down onto gearbox. If you had a gearbox oil leak you may have known as its smelly, or leave patches on the floor at least.

Or if your concentric clutch cylinder has given up then it would leak brake fluid but then you would have no clutch pedal, you may need to take to someone else who knows what they are doing or weigh up if its worth fixing or buy another car as harsh as that sounds.

Thanks. I juSt don't know how to argue it with the garage. And I now have to drive he car in potentially worse condition then when I took it there.

Thats on 020 gearbox, i thought you were referring to/owned a 1.8t. The 020 gearbox which is in your car isn't that tough tbh, id say its upgrade time to a LC or LCR ;)

Mixed opinions on mr clutch. Only used that branch once but that was 15 years ago!!
Just sounds a bit fishy. Could you take it somewhere else or will that cost you even more?

It'll cost me more as had to pay to fit the car back. Plus still needs the work done and the gearbox seal. They were competitively priced so now if I go elsewhere it'll just cost too much more.
I'll ring the booking office and see if can get some money off as they have old expired discounts online.
