What the jiddery **** are these ****ing moronic dealers ****ing paid to do? Does no ****er take pride in their pissing work any more!?

Sent my brand new car back to the dealers as they ****ed up painting the spoiler first time around, only to return it after 3 ****ing weeks with runs in it. I thought sod it, it's better than the last time and if it took the useless ***** 3 weeks for this standard, how long will it take for a proper job?

Drive the car home then I ****ing see this monstrosity:

Door Damage (5) by Rich Perkins, on Flickr

And guess ****ing what.. I take it straight back to the dealers and they won't take responsibility, I must have done it my my drive home. The ****s.

I'm going to petrol bomb the ****ing place.

First thing sleep on it. Then write a carefully worded letter to the dealer, find out the name of the top guy etc.

Then give seat a call if that doesn't work.

***k sake, this is why I hate dealerships. This is why I take pictures of my car from all angles using a proper camera before I have any dealer work carried out. I also fully inspect my car while it's parked up at the dealership prior to driving away. You should do the same in the future.

But, the good news here is the law is on your side.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 requires a dealer or indeed anyone to use reasonable skill and care while carrying out any work and in addition to this the dealership is under an an obligation to take care of your car while it is with them. I would get straight on to them and ask them to prove that you caused the damage. If they cannot, then where does that leave you? Well, in limbo, but at least you know you're not going crazy. I would give the dealer an opportunity to fix their mistake first of all, over the phone and in writing, before contacting Citizens Advice. They will inform you of your rights.

Thanks Guys,

I was (and still am) fuming. The car was pristine when sent to them, we didn't fill out a condition report as the car was spotless (my first mistake). I've had a run in with this dealer before and they will fight me all the way. I dealt with the Sales Manager from the word go on this one and in hindsight I think he knew - The Sales Manager brought the car to me (rather the salesman who was sorting the warranty and who I was waiting for), the way he was watching me when I was checking the car should have rang alarm bells, it's like he was ready for something - When I first phoned to report the issue I went through to the switch board and asked for the original salesman by name but got put through to the Sales Manager. No Sales Manager would deal with something this small ordinarily. I don't believe in coincidences, I have an inkling he's been armed and ready for me.

Anyway, now I've slept on it I've decided they aren't having the car back, even if they offer to repair in full. The spoiler was poor first time around, after 3 weeks and a rectification the spoiler still has runs and they also managed to damage my door. I'd be insane to let them loose a third time on the car, it's more hassle than it'l be worth. I'm going to get x3 quotes today including another dealer, go with the one I feel most comfortable with and send them the bill. I'll settle for half/half settlement as a quick way of putting it to bed, if not I'll just open a small claims. I'm not messing about with them but out of principle I can't let this lay.

I'm also considering putting my efforts into a website highlighting facts so when people Google the dealer they'll come across my site. It won't take me long but it'll hopefully cause them enough grief to think twice about pulling this again.

It honestly blows my mind that a large, professional company such as this are happy to point the finger at a customer. I could understand if obviously not them, but surely it's in their interest to sort this quickly and professionally when there is doubt either way. When our company/our contractors make blunders at work but there is no proof it's so easy to rectify it and do it cheaply at cost - I'm sure they send so many cars to their bodyshop they'll be able to negotiate a favour of some sorts it'll cost them nothing. I've never come across an industry which is so unprofessional as new cars.

If this were ever to go to court the judgement would be in your favour, or split liability would be agreed, so 50/50 is a good compromise on your part.

Where are you based? If you are in West Yorks I know a cracking bodyshop.

South Yorkshire, but willing to travel - I've failed to find a good on in South Yorkshire yet! I also have a MK1 Golf needing a bit of work too

Thanks,

Will give them a shout. I've had x3 quotes. £150+vat is the cheapest to £500 for another dealer.. Nice!

It's either approved bodyshop for the warranty or go elsewhere and fingers crossed.

The other dealer was shocked, not only with the spoiler quality but the attitude of the original dealer, they said any complaint like this it's no questions asked and get it repaired, because they can't prove they didn't do it.

Had a final quote from JCT600 VW local to me.. I know it's not a Seat dealership but warranty is unaffected and I'm friendly with an employee there so got cost price. £296 all in.

Gutted as I was saving up for a DTUK box, but there you go.

I too am interested in finding a reliable, decent paint / body repair place, ideally Sheffield.

Let me know if you're happy with the result where you got it done. ;)

I'm going to use JCT600 VW Chesterfield At £296 all in. For a main dealer it's too cheap to say no.. My friend REALLY sorted me out.

For comparison, JTC600 Seat Sheffield was £637 for the retail price!! Ouch!

Mods... Am I allowed to name the Supplying Dealer?

OK mate, sounds like a good deal.

Remember to get a full receipt of the work and to bill SEAT for it. File a small claim with the dealer I highly doubt they will even contest within the 14-day time limit.

My plan is to contact the supplying dealer on Thursday, informing them the car will be made good in 7 days time (car is already booked in for a week on Thursday). I'll inform them the likely cost and that it will be forwarded unless they commit to a solution before 7 days is up.

I'll get the work done, pay for it and give them another 7 days to pay. Then it's small claim time I think. Or should it be 14 days from when the work was done?

The bottom line is, I'm not giving them an inch.

Have you tried speaking to seat customer service? They were pretty good when I had some problems following a purchase and dodgy dealer work.

Some bad garages out there in general, not just dealers.

My experience with Seat in Liverpool has been decent enough so far, will see if it lasts tho.

It's so hard to find good garages in general these days that will look after your car in the way you'd look after it yourself.

I find myself going a lot off recommendations these days and travelling further a field to get the service that tbh should just simply be the norm.... most people just don't give a **** these days, it's a shame no one takes pride in their work.

I learnt the hard way that just because a franchised main dealer has a large and modern bodyshop it doesn't mean that it is staffed competently.

For a quality repair local to South Yorkshire speak to Dave Burkinshaw at Deepcar Autobodies.

If you fancy venturing a bit further afield to someone with a particular enthusiasm for VW/Audi/SEAT cars then speak to Jake Walsh at Panelcare Rochdale.

Google them for contact details.

I have no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer (and I am picky, just ask them! :)).

Can vouch for deepcar autobodies too, heard nothing but good things from my MX-5 days (have had 4 of them :D)

I've been on the lookout for a decent VAG specialist in the North West area, seems there's varied reviews of a few... Unit 20 seems to be coming out on top from reviews and recommendations from what I've seen so might get them to do a health check on mine, only had it a month and I always like to get a second opinion.

It's in for clutch and DMF under warranty at the dealers at the moment already but that's just because there was slight clutch judder occasionally and I want it to be spot on.. they agreed to replace so that's nice.

I've heard of Deepcar Autobodies a few times through recommendations.. I'll be remembering all these when I need to take my MK1 in.

I think in this instance I need to take the car to a dealer. For warranty and the fact I'm trying to claim back from another dealer, it just makes sense to keep it all with the Dealer peers.

The more I look at the spoiler the more I realise how bad the colour match is.. I'm so disappointed.

The other dealers said they won't touch this at all, they'd bin it and start again - Too much liability and to go wrong when rectifying someone elses work. It's only a couple of runs, but in all honesty this is what I'd expect from a back street dodgy bodyshop, not mainstream dealer.

What a defeat attitude I see here! It all started great with the desire for bombing the dealer, etc. only to retreat later to looking for decent paint shop... Where did the rage go with the absolutely deserved retaliation?!
