Managed to loose my bloody keys up hillwalking with my dog the other day. Dropped the car off to SEAT in Aberdeen and they have after two weeks of me nipping there heads told me that it's going to be 250+vat for the new keys and coding, also that it's a 6 week wait for them to even arrive! Already fell out with them over this just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same issue and what it costed them etc

If you had a spare I'd recommend buying a blank blade and coding it either yourself or by your friendly locksmith (if he does it)

Guess the cost is down to the fact they have to request your specific key pattern from SEAT and stuff, then it's the labour to code it. How much they charge just for the keys? No coding?

I'm guessing that you only lost one SEAT key, other wise you would not be mobile.

If you did not go down the SEAT route, and bought a secondhand key from ebay, you would still need to buy a new transponder for that secondhand key as they can not be reprog'd, that would cost you maybe £15, but the local locksmith would only copy your original key's code, original keys have each got a different transponder code, also the SEAT dealer will need your remaining key so that he can delete all keys from the car and add back in the remaining one and recode the new one - doing this makes sure that the missing key can no longer be used with that car. Next issue, any details on the key ring that would lead a finder to your house or car, if so you will need to do more.

And it was £190 for just the keys the 55+vat for coding! Then had the cheek to tell me they had to get a cars recovery service to move the car and they'd be charging me for that when I have a recovery truck myself and would have moved it if I was contacted

SEAT Aberdeen seem to think everyone is made of money I had my k1 there with a throttle body fault, and they came up with the conclusion that the Ecu needed to be replaced, the car had a stage 2+ remap and they wouldn't even try my Ecu in another for this reason and wouldn't try a standard one in mine so was a very expensive visit. There is a vag specialist in Newmachar, I don't know his name but if you google it he might be able to help you.

Ouch you only had one key, how much to add a second, maybe basic key to that bill, it could happen again and a second basic key, while costing more should not cost much more?

Yeah the guy wasn't best pleased when I told him if he thought I was paying for the car to be moved on top of paying for there awful service he could go f**k himself that's for the fob key and a basic key I should have mentioned that. Just the 6 week wait I was shocked at Audi do it in 5 days...
