Right, I've got myself a little dilemma that hopefully you guys can help me out with!

I've recently come in to ownership of my Leon Cupra, but unfortunately she has seen some mileage and is now sitting on 140k.

I'm just wondering if it is worth carrying out any engine mods, or whether it would be better to put in a new engine first?

I don't know what these cars are capable of or how long they last... But in general terms an engine that has usually done 140k is a bit tired and adding power mods to it may not cope..

Anyone able to shed some light on my situation? Would be much appreciated!

Guess it depends on what power mods you're referring to and how well looked after the engine has been

Well it has full service history and receipts... Not had a thorough look through it all, but it seems to be a well looked after motor!

In terms of power, I was looking to move on towards the stage 2/2+ Which is what, 250bhp? But in the long run I was thinkin more, maybe hybrid turbo and all that!

Jus don't want the old goat to kick it half way through!

My advice would be to run the car for a while and have a full service done to the engine, that way you'll be able to assess the standard of the rest of the mechanical components and fix as required.

Then start with the mods, tune your merry heart out, if the engine goes bang then replace it then, if it last for a few years then you've not had to shell out loads of cash for no real reason.

These engines are good for mileage and power if properly cared for.

A refresh of belts, hoses, and bushings would do it the world of good.

Ok, sounds like a good idea to me! I'll give it time, test and feel and go from there.. May get one of the MOT guys from work to give it a once over for me!

I'll probably jus go ahead with the n249 and SAI removal coz there's nothing to that!

It sounds like it's been well looked after, couldn't fault it on test drive or on the way home, still pulled nicely too! Gonna have a good look through the receipts to see what's been done recently!

Thanks for the tips!

Mines on 185k with stage 2 . Pulls like a train still, but I have noticed she's starting to burn a little oil .
If it was me ...... Buy a 2nd hand block and rebuild it . It can be done a month at a time and won't hit the pocket hard in one big hit .
When the time comes , swap it over ...... Well that's the plan I've got .

I was thinking about that when I move house.. Hoping to get a garage with it.

At least that way it can be refurbed and modified along the route..

If I get a BAM engine, will I need to change all the other bits, ie, FMIC, exhaust, induction kit, TIP, etc..

Also, does it still use the same gearbox, driveshafts, hubs as the AUQ?
