I had a stone hit the front windscreen on the A14 yesterday, its developed into a nice large crack. Anyone had experience of Auto glass replacing the windscreen and recalibrating the Assistance Camera?

Sorry to hear this. The advice I received from the BMW dealership was to ensure that Autowindshields replaced the screen with OEM glass. They have had problems with recalibration after the event and cannot do it. Autowindshields say they use Pilkington's glass as supplied to BMW w/o the BMW logo.

Fortunately I was able to persuade my insurance co twice in a year to allow OEM glass to be used so never had to test it out.

Suggest you contact SEAT dealership to see if they have ever had a recalibration issue. Then contact another and then ring SEAT Customer services!

This sucks! Insurance will cover the cost of the glass, autoglass have confirmed its an OEM SEAT part they will use, has to be ordered from SEAT directly.

On the recalibration point, SEAT dealers I've spoken to say that it should be done. And recalibration requires specialist equipment that not all dealerships have. Sounds like I may be stuck with using Autoglass to recalibrate, and not covered by any major insurer according to Autoglass, so all at a cost of £255 (plus the excess on the glass)

Well try Autoglass assuming it's part of their standard replacemnet ie FOC and if it fails then go to a dealer?

What do you need to recalibrate, rain sensor? ACC is located in the front. I've replaced my windsheild and no recalibration needed.

Its the lane assistance / high beam assistance camera that need recalibrating. Just trying to figure out if its scaremongering or something that truly needs to be done.

Stuck some red vinyl on the wheels, looks very smart in person but doubt they'll last the beating of brake dust and road grime.

I was in a similar situation last year. I was advised by Autoglass to visit my dealer after the replacement for recalibration. I was then told by my dealer that the equipment used to recalibrate isn't available at every dealer and is usually shared amongst a group in that region. Sounded like a right mess about. IIRC my car would of ended up with a VW dealer in South Beds. It might be worth calling Vindis VW as they might have the kit now.

Luckily enough when the Autoglass technician visited he said he could repair the crack or have a new screen. Given that the recalibration sounded like it was going to be expensive/a PITA I opted to have it repaired. Still holding up now...

Sounds like Autoglass now offer this service. Worth finding out how much a dealer charges and go from there.

The council up here in Northumberland have been using this method of road surfacing for years. It is lethal if you hit it on your bike :banned:
