Gearbox Mainshaft Bearing Plastic?

So bought myself the gearbox shim and cap to put into my cupra gearbox to see if I could cure the whine and crunch from 3rd to 4th.

When I removed the plastic cap I was greeted with a load of plastic bits falling out. To start with I wasn't sure where they came from but soon realised it should have been complete and spaces the bearings out. Does anyone know if this is a part that can be replaced without having to take the gearbox apart?

Thanks

Anyone know if it's part of the bearing and whether it can be removed without taking gearbox apart?

There's 7 bearings around the input shaft. It has a black plastic ring that holds the metal ball bearings in place. It's the black plastic bit that's broken.

So looks like it's number 3 on the diagram just not clear if it can come out without taking the box apart.

If you find out about this let me know because mine was the same and the noise is doing my nut in!

The mainshaft bearings are expensive, hard to replace and difficult to shim. The plastic is part of the bearing..

You wont get that out without opening the gearbox up. Prob around £300-£400 to fix, provided the bearing is reasonably priced! Might be worth looking for a second hand box.
