Hi test driving a new Cupra 290 black edition dsg on sat
My current car is the mk2 Cupra mapped stage 1 300 bhp
I presume newer car will feel more linear
I hope the steering is more responsive as think the mk2 is very slow to react
Will be looking at getting the mk3 Cupra mapped in the future
Thanks

I went from a remapped 2010 FL Mk2 Cupra with about 300bhp to a stock Cupra 280 and the Mk3 is a definite step up in most ways (prefer the seats in the Mk2 over the standard Mk3 though).

Realistically the Mk3 will likely be about 300bhp anyway and in a lighter chassis so you wont feel like you are missing any power from your stage 1 Mk2, better fuel economy if you are just commuting also.

Will probably keep this car for a while so aim to get it remapped for a mid-life boost!

Latest update drove a mk7 golf Gti pp on sat
The power delivery was great zero lag
Love the interior and exterior quality
It was the dsg box and was fantastic
Seat dealer was next door and had a 3 door Cupra 290
It just looked like a blown up Ibiza and interior is miles worse
Ended up choosing the golf Gti in white

Don't agree golf looks miles better
The interior is in a different league
The seat badge has no kudos
I have owned my Cupra for 2 years and been very good

That's interesting, did you drive the Cupra? I appreciate it was a PP GTI you drove, but I've driven the Golf R and it felt restrained compared to the Cupra. Horses for courses and all that but if you want a cosy interior the VW will always win. Hope you enjoy the new motor. I agree re the 3 door though, think the Leon carrys itself better and is in better proportion in ST or 5dr guise. I would have gone for red in gti though, but I remember the Mk2 GTI in red :D

I don't have red cars mate
Always white
To be honest I don't see that many Gti mk7 or cupras
The seat badge carries no weight I'm afraid
I hate the rear on the Cupra looks like an fr
Sorry just to bland

Valid comments mate, hope you enjoy! I went the other way and bought the Cupra over the Golf GTI. I agree on the GTI being a pretty rare beast, always enjoy trying to pick one out from the swarms of Golf R's and GTD's.

Yes mate your 100% correct far to many golfs about
Loads of lease cars etc
I actually prefer the look of the Gti over the golf r
No honeycombe grill and no 3 canards on the r

Hope you like - congrats for your new ride! :)

I testdrove GTi PP as well before getting the Cupra. I tried to like the Golf but the engine was flat/diesel-like (all midrange, no top end) and there was not enough "hot hatch" in the car. I found the GTi as a somewhat sporty car for people who do not have enough balls to buy a real hot hatch and are too selfconscious about their image. ;) :p

Just my personal experience and opinion. I'm sure you made the right choice! :)

Couldn't agree less
The mk7 golf Gti feels miles more sporty than the Cupra mk2
It's a bit diesel like as in low and mid torque is great
Top end will come more alive with a remap and turbo back exhaust
When I get bored you can simply add the golf r turbo on

My mistake, I was comparing mk7 GTi to Mk3 Cupra. Sorry about that!
