Alloy Wheel Cover

Hello,

Does anyone have any additional cover taken out on their alloy wheels? I used to have it with my corsa and it covered any scratches or dents(scuffed the front right 3 times on the curb at work) and I was looking to get something similar for my new car, especially with it being a lease. The lease covers tyre replacements but not alloy damage :(

I'm getting my FR Titanium Monday so the alloys are quite fancy and diamond cut so ideally I want to protect them from my curb related shortcomings.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Not on the SEAT but will be taking out 3 year tyre and wheel cover on the bimmer when it arrives next month. The run flats are £200 a corner and usually can't be repaired after a puncture.

Or tyres with rim protection? That will help avoid light scuffs but if you really hit a curb or pothole hard then I'm not sure anything can save your alloys. Be careful of tyre fitters too, most don't give a toss about your rims, they just want to get your tyres changed as quickly as possible.

How come you went for run flats? Not as good handling or as comfortable. Also have you checked the run flats are definitely covered by the cover?

Careful with wheel insurance as lots of them excluding diamond cut wheels it's in the small print

I always say to the fitter doing my new tyres look after my alloys and I will give you a drink always worth a fiver a wheel, teener for two or more.

Snap that's what I do, I have now found a decent tyre fitter I trust for my Diamond Cut MR2 wheels. Had the last couple of tyres for the Leon fitted by SEAT as they price matched and no issues at all.

I would advise against Alloygator type protectors on Diamond Cut wheels as the act of fitting them can damage the lacquer, and you want to avoid getting water under the lacquer.

Protect them with a good quality Wax, wash with car shampoo not wheel cleaner and avoid curbs :(

But as the Titanium Pack alloys are diamond cut, they require specialist equipment to repair them, so it's unlikely a mobile smart repairer would have the necessary equipment to do a decent repair on a diamond cut alloy.

Those companies that can repair them do so by removing a layer of metal by skimming the wheel on a diamond cutting lathe to get rid of the damage. Because the process involves removing a layer of metal, there is a limit to the number of times a wheel can be repaired. Typically, the cost to refurbish an 18" diamond cut alloy is £80-£90 plus VAT, and as Marty 34 has said, many alloy wheel insurance policies exclude diamond cut alloys, presumably because of the higher costs involved in diamond cut repairs v's powder coating or a smart repair.

Therefore, check the small print before buying. If you do find alloy wheel cover that includes diamond cut alloys, I dare say it will be quite expensive compared to the cover you had for your Corsa.

My corsa has diamond cut 17s, I was just as surprised, cover was £200 for 2 years, 10 alloy repairs or replacements up to a value of £150 per claim and 5 tyres at £100 max per claim
