Well, when my clutch failed on my Leon Fr, I was told off by a VAG garage and the AA for wanting to change the original dual mass flywheel for a single mass.

They said that a single mass flywheel would put too much strain on the gearbox due to the increased vibration.
So in order to honour my AA parts and labour warranty I had to stick in another dual mass flywheel.

Cheers

As above, it was a big thing on some of the BMWs to put a single mass on but it can cause problems, as dual mass absorbs a lot of shock (so you dont get the judder if you forget to change down a gear :)) and the crank and engine are set up for the dualmass. Not sure how true it all is, and i can see the attraction as a new dual mass wheel is not cheap. may be worth getting a specialist to look at your flywheel, they may say just upgrade the friction plate and bearing?
