Morning guys,

Just wondered what kind of mileage you are getting out a tank? I'm currently averaging 400-420 in my 184TDI FR DSG. On the motorway sitting at 75 getting average 41-44mpg

Cheers

Normally I get 500 miles to a tank with just 'normal' driving. I've had over 600 twice, but both times were long journeys and with a TDI Tuning box fitted.
Driving with a bit of 'gusto' and a tank will last 450 miles.

48 - 52 on measured refill. Average since new (13K+) is 49.791!

Same overall average as mine, 49.6 calculated over 43k.
I think that's the benchmark then!

FWIW, the average figure posted on the "Real MPG" section of HonestJohn is 50.5 for the TDI 184.

Mine was giving 40-45mpg at 75mph on motorway until about 15k miles then its been getting better. Now it gives 50mpg at 75mph cruise but with gentle throttle and sticking to 70mph I saw 60mpg the other day.

I've heard the TDI engines only become truly run in about 40K miles. Not sure if true or not but should only get better based on that. First tank with mine driving mixed normal and sport. Got 300miles and not even halfway through the tank ! I'm expecting around 600 for this tank based on the info the cars given me.

That'll mostly be your driving style, sure engines get better once they're run in but big variances in mpg simply come down to the driver and routes they drive on. I've no doubt that if I drove 10 of the same car they'd all show near identical mpg.

I can usually do more than 300 miles on the first 'half' of the tank, then it drops to empty quite a bit quicker!

Hi, I've got a 184 manual and get similar mpg about 48-50 at 75mph. I have done a 50 mile economy run at 56mph. I got 65mpg. However it was a slow boring drive.

I got 58mpg yesterday on a 20 mile journey (above 50 normally). I was on the way to getting it remapped actually. So hopefully get better mpg from now on.

Around the 50mpg mark. I can get more if I nurse it but 50 with normal driving.

I did 10000 miles over 9 months and I averaged 59.9 in mine, brimming it each fill and recording mileage via an app (rather than via the dash info). I did, however, cruise at 63mph on motorways and 85-90% of my journeys were up at down the m1 for work. I rarely got under 600 from a tank but obviously I drove it relatively slowly! The one time I did give it some beans on a 100mile trip back from Skegness at almost midnight when the roads were empty, I 'only' got 550 from that tank.

Change of job means I've now got an Audi 1.8tfsi (same engine as the leon 1.8 which I would have got had there been any in the right spec/price band at the time I was looking) and I'm averaging 38mpg over 3 tanks so far over 2 and a bit months so you can see my travel has dropped drastically!
