2010 Bocanegra Engine Management Light - Fault Code P0556

I recently got myself a 2010 Bocanegra 1.4 TSI and it's by far the most fun I've had driving in a long time! However, last week the engine management light turned on. The car seemed to be driving just the same as before and to me it didn't feel like there were any issues. I had it booked in for a service at the local SEAT dealer so I figured I'd wait to see what they had to say.

They told me that the fault codes had been cleared and that there's nothing wrong with the car. They said it was just an anomaly, something had triggered a sensor by mistake and that there was nothing to worry about. Well, there wasn't until I started the car the next day. The light had come back so I decided to use an OBD reader to have a look at the fault code.

The fault code I got was P0556. A search around has told me it's something to do with either the oxygen sensors or brake booster pressure. It seems unlikely to be to do with my brakes as they also have been fine and the car has been running a bit rich. I put that down to me enjoying the extra BHP the car has over my previous but I guess it could be something more.

I've cleared the code and the light has since come back. The car is driving just the same and I still don't feel anything wrong with it but the fact that the light is coming back on is telling me something isn't quite right and I'd rather get to it before it possibly causes me any problems. I don't know enough about these sorts of things to know exactly where to start in trouble shooting this and to be honest, after being told there wasn't a problem the first time I don't exactly trust taking it back to the dealer without getting a better insight elsewhere first. I've had a good look around the forums but I haven't seen anyone mentioning it so I figured I'd create a post and see if anyone had come across a similar fault or had any idea what may be the cause/solution.

Thanks for reading.

Much appreciated mate, I'll give that a go.

Seems every website I've been to have given different answers. Who really knows? I could have been looking at the wrong thing entirely. This sort of stuff is all very new to me still.

Google has given me a rough idea of where about's the sensor should be so I'll try and find it after work and try unplugging it. Hopefully, it's nothing more than a loose or dirty connection but we shall see. I'll give it a go and report back.

Thanks again.

I'll maybe get this wrong, but once you've cleared the fault does it appear the next time you start it?or do you go through a 3 or 4 drive cycles before it comes back. My thinking here is that say you clear the fault then disconnect the plug to the sensor and it throws the MIL and the same fault code it must have something to do with that sensor.
Drive cycles: to throw up certain faults if a fault is present it pops it into a pending state and if it does this so many times it then registers it on the dash

Once I clear the fault, the light won't be there for a little while. Sometimes a day, sometimes 15 minutes but no, it doesn't usually appear straight away when I start the car so I think you're right in regards to the drive cycles.

That would make sense, I can definitely try that when I find it.

I had something similar and it was a trapped hose towards the back of the engine. Pulled it out of the trap, and connected it the right way and all was fine.
