Hi guys, second question of the night. What's the best solution for acquiring a set of alloys to accommodate some winter rubber? Anyone have any they aren't using and want to get rid of? I've seen a few places online selling steel 16 inch wheels but ideally I'd like to find a set of 16 inch oem alloys. What did you guys do? (Currently she's sitting in 18inch wheels with summer tyres). Cheers...

I used a placed called Wheelbase in north Manchester. Not the nicest alloys but cheaper than buying steels. Think I paid about £400 for all 4 with Goodyear winter tyres in therm. In their second season and so far so good

Also - it depends which engine you have - the 170 Tdi's & petrol 2.0's have larger brake disks up front which can make fitting 16inch alloys difficult if the offset isn't right.

An alternative you might consider is all weather tyres.

I fitted my ST with Michelin Cross Climate tyres, and I dont need to change them over for summer/winter. Fitted at 95K they havent needed changing yet (although probably will do soon on the front) and im up to 126K now, I really cant recommend them highly enough, the grip is phenomenal in cold wet weather and there has been no noticeable effect on fuel efficiency, plus they are the quietest tyres I've ever had.

That's good going okedave, I think I'll consider those next time. I currently run Goodyear Eagle F1s which are fine and do last quite well - 22K on the front but all year around safety is a pro with the cross climates.

How do you find the Eagle F1s on the Exeo ? I have regularly had them on previous and found them to be great tyres all though they did feel different on each car as expected. I think i'm due a couple of tyres soon and want something with some decent rim protection.

Apologies for hi-jacking the thread.

Cross climates? I've been hearing good stuff about these..I too have run Goodyear eagle F1s on previous cars but am looking for something to see me through our winters as well, hence trying to get some winter tyres/wheels.

Compared to the original rubber on the car when I bought it at 6 months old (Bridgestones) these Eagle F1s are great for grip and longevity. Bridgestones only lasted 12k on the front until tramlining became too much where as the Eagles lasted 22k.

However I have had one issue with a set I had on the rear (but were previously on the front) in that when they were swapped to the back the car had what felt like an alignment issue - it steered off centre when going straight. This was following new front tyres and an alignment, I had a couple of alignments done following trying to cure the the issue and eventually replaced the tyres when they were due. This fixed the problem and at the time I didn't think the Eagles were the cause of the problem so I'd ordered them again as replacements.

I'll probably try something else out next time, possibly these cross climates as a one stop solution.
