Hi sorry im very new to this and don't know if iv posted in the correct form so apologize if so.

I just bought myself a leon cupra turbo (180) and I was driving back from parents house on monday and the oil light flashed and bleeped 3 times. I then lost all boost and a whistling soumd started. Smoke started pouring out exhaust system so I pulled over switched off and callex the AA. When he arrived he fired it up and it was top end chapping..... he poured more oil into it (already just bellow full level) and the chapping went away. He said its the oil pick up thats not working so towed me to a garage and they changed the oil pick up, oil filter and oil change. I picked it up, went to drive and still the same issues. Had it looked at again and the turbo is spewing oil into exhaust so...... iv bought a new turbo to fit tomorrow but..... should I change oil pump and breather too? Iv a funny feeling that the problem was caused by oil pump not working so there was no oil pressure thus causing turbo to starve of oil and blew itself.

Please please help before I go fit turbo tomorrow and it blows again due to oil pump. Thanks folks.

The oil pickup pipe us a common fault and the damage was possibly done before the repair as the turbo spools at a very fast rate so wouldn't take much if starved from a chocked pickup pipe. You should be able to check the pump tho not sure how to do it.

Yea oil pick up been changed, new oil filter and oil change. Still the same problems. Iv no idea, now the oil pick up has been changed do you think il get away with putting the new turbo on it without blowing this one? Its literally spewing oil through the exhaust system and smoking extremely bad.

Or should I replace the oil pump first?

Oil pump must be ok if it's throwing it out.

Ok great so if the oil pump wasn't working it wouldn't spew oil into exhaust system through the turbo? (New to turbo cars, always had either an ST or something similar) first turbo car iv owned so apologize for the slow learning

I'm not 100% but I would assume that if the oil is spewing out the pump is doing its job. You would probably hear the pump if it was on its way out. Would also get a compression test done to check the engine to make sure all is good before you change the turbo.

if pump failed and you are getting oil out of exhuats every bearinf surface is likely damaged.
turbo fail blowing oil out of exhaust

Did the oil alarm and the turbo issue happen at exactly the same time? Or did you continue driving with low oil pressure and then the turbo issue happened further on?

If it happened at the same time, (or wihin a few seconds of each other) then i would guess that the main turbo oil seal failed and allowed so much oil to pass into the exhaust that it caused the oil pressure to drop and the low oil pressure alarm to go off.
If you pulled over and switched off the engine immediately then it should be a case of replacing the turbo and all should be good.

If it was the second scenario and the engine was run with low oil pressure for any period of time, (either because the pump failed or because so much oil had been lost to the exhaust), then like bill says every bearing in the engine will probably be wrecked.

This happened to mine . Ended up with a new block , turbo , and exhaust .
The damage could be endless . I would go for a rebuild or a 2nd lump .
