I have a 2012 Cupra R. I drove with the radio off the other day and noticed under engine breaking a noise which sounds like it's underneath the gear stick area. Let's say I'm in second and before I get chance to up change I take the foot off the gas there sounds like a bit of a 'chuff' sound. It happens under engine breaking for a split second. My car is low mileage only 9500 miles but just wondered if this is normal?

I could be reading this wrong but it Sounds like the diverter valve doing its thing. Is it when you let of the throttle? More noticeable under high boost?

That is what I thought..... Or is it a different noise to that? Any loss in power at any point in the rev range? Any warning lights on at all?

Thanks for responding guys! I'm not sure, no loss off power or any performance issue just a strange short noise under engine breaking at low speeds. Like I said I could be accelerating in second (not aggressively) and before changing I ease of the gas say if a speed bump was there and it does it then. Definitely happens for a split second under engine breaking. I was worried is was something to do with gearbox, clutch or fly wheel as the noise comes from below gear change area. I've only done just under 10, 000 miles so I would be shocked if it was any of above. Maybe it's always been there but never noticed it?! What you think?

Just spoke to a VW specialist and he didn't think it was flywheel, said I would be hearing noises when using clutch and would hear it rattling more. He didn't seem too concerned

Hi there i don't know if this comes under the same thing but I've noticed under 1500rpm there is a vibration not one you feel just hear. It goes away when you press down on the clutch and comes back again when released. No issues when it idles and the clutch it self seems fine. Its a 2007 fr tdi. Just wanted to see if anyone had some thoughts. Have been told possible the dual mass fly wheel.
