Which Exhaust? Pre-FL FR TDI

Hi,

Since having my FR TDI, I've always been intrigued into changing the exhaust. Reason being purely for aesthetics. I have searched the forums for opinions but I can't seem to find the 'right' answer to my question.

I've seen the milltek, with special oval tip. I love the look of this exhaust, mainly for the tip. However with it being priced around £530 it is rather steep. I also read quality isn't that good, is this true? Also can the TFSI version fit the FR, I also read it can be fitted but you need a reducer which milltek sell separately. So I am a bit confused regarding this exhaust.

I've also been quoted by a local exhaust fabrication place who are reputable, for a straight through exhaust system at £320 with oval tip. Or just the rear box for £120 with oval tip.

Which of these would be better, are there any gains to be had or not?

Thanks in advance.

Last time I had a milltek was a downpipe for a 2.5 Vectra and the quality was astounding. That's all I can tell you really.

If you want it purely for aesthetics then just get the back box done.

You won't see too much of a gain with a straight through box other than sound, unless you've had a remap and had the dpf gutted.

Hi, yes I have had a remap. dpf is apparently gutted but it passed emissions first time and I've never had a light on dash for dpf regeneration.

I wouldn't say a drone sound it's hard to say on a diesel but performance side not much unless you get rid of your dpf plus blank your egr off then get a good remap

Dpf has been deleted as far I know along with egr. I also have a bluefin remap. I think I'm sold on the custom exhaust. Will let you guys know once I manage to get one just to give a review for others who may be looking to do the same.

Right thought I'd give this an update; I have narrowed it down to 3 exhaust systems

Milltek special oval cat back £537
Cobra custom built onto the car with a cupra tip from catback £508
Custom exhaust straight through from cat back £320

The custom exhaust places work looks brilliant so I'm unsure as to what to go for. I don't want it to drone or be boy racer loud. I would go milltek but hearing and reading about welds breaking within a few months doesn't make me want one.

Cobra seems to get good reviews but heard they're quite loud.

Any advice?

If it was me I think I would go for a custom built option. Not just because it's the cheapest but because there will be some element of uniqueness to it and the custom ones that are built to the car by one of the reputable fabricators "while you wait" so to speak tend to be pretty well constructed. Plus if there are any issues you can just pop back and they will likely just sort it out while you wait. Also, you will get to specify how loud (or not) you want it and you get to choose a tailpipe that is to your own particular taste :)
