hi I am wanting some help with my dilemma and some advice I have a 2014 seat leon 150 fr I currently have a tdi tuning box which really makes a difference but as my warranty runs out next month I am thinking of getting a revo remap for it but my question is would I notice the difference with a remap or am I just wasting my money and just keep the tuning box ? , thanks for any opinions or advice

Depends on the tuning box, the decent ones actually change more than just telling the car it's running colder thus pumping extra fuel in.

Personally mines is remapped, although I considered a decent tuning box they are £300+, where as I got mine mapped + rolling road for £200, which was an ECU out job. (Give the guy his due he quoted me for the map through OBD but didn't realise he'd have to get the ECU out)

The difference is amazing, pulled 200 then after a tweak 206 (170 standard on 100k miles mk2 cr tdi) something that you won't get from a plug and play box.

Maybe pay for a rolling road session and see how much difference the box actually makes and go from there?

Remapping (properly) should make the car much smoother to drive, as a decent mapper will tailor a well proven map to the specifics of your car.
There will absolutely be a difference, and you will definitely get a performance increase on paper.. whether you can feel any actual difference comes down to the map that's written, but it is unlikely to be a huge gain, and therefore you have to weigh up the cost v bhp argument.
If your 150 is already at say 180 using a £200 tuning box, but a remap takes you to 200bhp for an additional £200, you might think that warrants the expense, however if the difference is only 10bhp or less it becomes a more difficult choice... The law of diminishing returns etc...

Id wait for a Revo sale or get it done if they are at an event. There will be a difference but nothing like going stock to stage 1 tuning box or map.

Tuning boxes give false readings. You try and get a technical response from DTUK on why their boxes are better than cheap eBay ones, when I asked I was just told 'you get what you pay for'

mine is an absolute riot with the DTUK box and it was cheap on here 2nd hand.

I don't have it wound right up but a noticeable difference to OEM.

go remap for accuracy. but not if you have to take it to the dealers for issues. I can get the box off in 15 mins if needed.

as you say you pays your way and all that

Dealers can find out if you have a tuning box on with their software so you're not really any better off than having a remap

Not if you wipe the error codes off with VCDS like I do (which takes about 5 minutes), so yes you are miles better off than having a remap

Its not what I think, its what I know to be true. Do you have a leon?

I do, yes.

A dealer will be able to probe much deeper into the engine logs and it will be pretty obvious if a box has been used.

Apparently the burger tuning boxes are more difficult to detect.

Error codes have nothing to do with the dealer finding a remap. I suspect just like any file on your pc the "date modified" would be the first thing they would check.

If any tuner can plug into your car and tell you it's been remapped and who by, what makes anyone think that the people who make the damn car won't have access to such tools?

My apologies, I've been reading another thread of a similar topic but it was about a remap.

Non the less, I wouldn't be so confident in a dealer not finding out you had a tuning box attached in the event of a major failure...
