Now then guys.. how are you all?

So I have had my car for 6 months now. Do on average 1000 miles a month. I do a round trip to the Midlands twice a month. Round trip 400 miles. The rest of the time it's spent around the town too and from work.

I assumed when buying it that my 800 mile motorway journey each month would be enough to keep the dpf clean. However it has not happened. I have had the light on 4 times in 6 months. Along with numerous regens.

What I'm after is advice on how to reduce this amount.

Would a remap work?
Dpf removal another option?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like something wrong to me.

I've had mine nearly 3 years. 30 miles each way to work on motorway.

Not once have I had a light on for dpf.

I'd have the car plugged in checked for faults, I do similar miles but I'm 12 miles to work Hartlepool to Middlesbrough commute daily then round town too, had dpf light once in 5 years.

Blast down motorway weekly sort it gets oil hot enough to activate regen

Something is wrong with your car. I recommend that you check ( or get someone to check ) the boost and intake hoses and clips for any leaks. Even a slightly loose clip will cause excess soot to be formed and will not be detected by any of the on board diagnostics. Some garages have special equipment to run pressurised smoke tests to look for leaks, this would be a good route to take.

I work on the diesel aftertreatment for JLR so have some experience of DPF's and related systems.

Thanks for the suggestion buddy. Something to look into. I have occasional flat spots as well when accelerating. Wonder if all part and parcel

Yeah sounds like it, although some flat spots come as normal, certainly on the 184 engine

Yeah I read that. Are you in Rugby? Is there anyone around the Coventry Rugby area that could check for leaks. That's where I go every fortnight

There's a lad in Halfords who was master tech when tones had vw franchise or parkview motors as it was then. Cranwell motors have good reputation too or vw specialist like volkswerk or vass tech

Yeah I live in rugby but work in Coventry. I am not sure who has leak checking equipment to be honest, I have always done that sort of thing myself by making sure all the hoses and clips are secure. Any decent garage should be able to check for split hoses and loose clips tho.

I had the 2.0TDI, did 8k miles in 2 years...occasional mid-long (1-2 hrs) highway driving 70-75 mph rpm around 2.2-2.4k once a month or so., rest is well London City driving..it does regen (eg...when it refused to turn off engine on start top and the fan is on after parking up, but light never did once come on. However my city driving are usually more than 20 mins / 5 miles.

However I only use non-Supermarket fuel. Shell/Esso/BP Regular diesel and every 3rd or 4th fill up Shell V Power Nitro Plus Diesel.

What diesel you using normally?

So if you are doing highway runs, and the lights still comes on more than regularly, something is amiss, perhaps a DPF clean? Or fill up with couple of tanks of Vpower Diesel? Is it a brand new car? Or 2nd hand one? Also how long is your to and from work journey? If it's less than 3-4 miles...then...well...

My to and from work journey is about 3 mile. On the flip side i was expecting my fortnightly runs to counter act that.

Its a second hand car with 48k on the clock. I have now bought a VCDS lead and did a forced regen. Soot content was about 18g took it down to 5g.

To be fair i do use alot of supermarket fuel. Perhaps like you and others have suggested i should use BP/Shell for a couple of months and see if i notice a difference.

Oh, well i guess 3 miles + supermaket fuel = DPF activities.....

Saying that, I've only ever done (in 2 years) perhaps 4 less than 5 mile city journeys from cold start.

I once did put £10, which at the time was about 10 litres of Supermarket Diesel in my car just to see what gives.

Well I noticed a more grumbly / unwilling engine, and it did regen within that 10 litres. Even my friend who I normally pick up every Sunday when I do my weekly Westfield to Westfield trip, made a comment, what's with your car? Got up on the wrong side of the bed?

Do try a couple of full tanks of Shell VPower Nitro Plus diesel, perhaps it might not fully sort your frequent regens (should be less frequent though), but at least the cleaning properties may be able to get rid of some 'gunk' in the engine, which in theory may restore some lost power and increase mpg.

As I got my previous 2.0TDI with only 2.5k on the clock, there wasn't much to clean, hee hee...so I only saw 1-2 mpg gains, but no noticible power gains.
