Rear hatch locked shut

Has anyone got an idea as how to open my rear hatch, the outside latch appears to be working ok still (makes the same noises as it always did) I've had the inner panel off in the rear and made sure all connections were sound, however, the manual release lever was very stiff and didn't move. I have managed to move the manual lever but the hatch will still not open, any ideas? Car is Altea Xl 2008.

I'm sure the microswitch has a plastic plunger which can wear down, I have read people have put blobs of glue of some kind on top for it to make a proper connection when trying to open it. Not sure if this helps but do a search if you have not already as I am sure this has been covered
