In the boot under the carpet should there be a bit of wood above spare wheel or something as mine has just carpet? Thanks

It's true. Under the carpet there is in fact a small circular wood panel that fits the spare wheel. It has a small hole in the center to lift it.

I believe its there to give a hard floor underneath the carpet so objects in the boot don't sink into the spare wheel.

But as said above just cut a piece of wood or PVC or even a old large cover should do the trick.

My spare wheel (Mk2 Leon FL), has a foam insert that holds the jack, wheel brace etc
That sits flush with the top of the spare wheel and supports the carpet

Must be easy to copy that set up

My mk1 leon has a plastic insert for the spare wheel which covers the jack etc, my carpet is still sagging around the spare wheel though.
Thinking about getting a rubber boot liner which may give it a bit more rigidity.
