It will be your thermostat mate. Quite a big job tbh. Dont hang around tho as it isnt good not letting your engine run at the correct temp

Depends how confident you are, but its buried deep in there. Google it and you will get an idea of what it entails

I will have a look mate thanks, I'm pretty confident but if can get a decent price from a garage think I'll let them get their hands dirty

70-75 on the clocks in reality is around 60 degrees C - the clocks don't give you the whole truth.. It needs changing though,

Ballache of a job, alternator needs to be removed etc.

Hi rang TPS for a thermostat and they said my car doesn't use normal thermostat but uses coolant regulator unit... is this correct? Had a labour price of £15 to fit thermostat which isn't too bad

Wrong on both counts. It does have a thermostat and it will cost a LOT more than £15 in labour to have fitted.

Price the job up at an independent VW specialist who will at least know where to look rather than try to describe what you need to a sales assistant over the phone

My model is the 2.0 tsi and just rang TPS back up and the coolant regulator is the thermostat built into a unit i.e. Housing etc had a couple of prices £60-£80 but been quoted £15 from a garage as they doing other bits for me

All Mk2 Cupra models come with a TFSI engine regardless of badging.

Yes the stat is integral to housing but its still a thermostat? Calling it a thermal regulating unit is just confusing matters

The stat is a ballache to get to, if the garage want to do it for £15 then jump on it

Yeah heard it's a ball ache was going to diy but seen a video and tbh I don't have the patience made it clear to the garage so we on same page and they charging £15 on top of £460 for other bits so guessing that's why they price is so cheap

What else are you having done out of curiosity? Unless it involves having the alternator off etc. then £15 is a steal, and a no-brainer. No doubt sundries like coolant will be added on top.... Might be worth asking them to flush the system and refill it with G13, not the cheap stuff they will have to hand

Fit a ramair induction, fit cam follower and and a stage 1 remap
had a system flush on most recent service plus got some G13 left over so coolant not really a issue

I think they will soon regret their offer of £15 in that case, i thought they were going to be having the alternator off or something......

The ramair intake and cam follower you could do yourself, both are an easy DIY even with limited knowledge, tools & experience.

As for the remap... Do you know who the file supplier is? I would whole heartedly recommend sticking with files from a trusted VAG tuner... That's all I will say on the matter

Yeah it is a good price I know but once I drop car off and hand keys and parts over there pretty much committed to fit it as Iv stated to do this prior to other work

Yeah induction and cam follower is a diy but got too much on atm or I'd do myself
Iv purchased the ramair induction the other day of them at a good price

And with regards to the remap they are a well known company in my neck of the woods who have mapped my last few cars along with loads of friends plus doin vags week in week out so I'm guessing they know what there doing

I would listen to Dan FR, as everything he has mentioned is spot on.

The fact that they are quoting £15 to change the stat shows they know little or nothing about these engines.

I would find a Vag Specialist near you, not someone who maps all makes and models. R Tech, AKS Tuning, TSR, Shark Performance to name a few, or anyone that does Revo or APR remaps.

Tbh mate if you ask for advice and then ignore it your kind of on your own

I understand what you saying but Iv asked for advice about car running low degrees and been recommended to change thermostat (coolant regulator) so Iv bought the part and I would much rather pay £15 to a company Iv used plenty of times and trust than pay £60-£80 for the same job elsewhere, as far as the map goes they map all cars using different software but they are more or less a vag specialist always got cars in like rs3,4,6 s3,4
Golf r gtd tsi tdi
Cupra r tdi
Skoda
Therefore I pretty must trust in what they do but I guess time will tell
