Hi guys,

few days ago I`ve installed the fox exhaust system (two final real silencers, without the middle silencer) to my Cupra ST 300 4x4 and wanted to share my impressions with you. I was hoping to get a better exhaust sound for the daily usage but unfortunately have to express my big disappointment. The exhaust added really deep noises when cruising at lower speeds and the whole car is just booming. In general, its delivering mainly really very low noises so when I am parking, the whole building is resonating so even neighbors 4 floors above knows that I arrived. The exhaust is with the EC certificate so I was expecting reasonable volumes but not this. I am going to do the full sound proofing of the back with hope that it will help a bit and also double-check that the exhaust was installed correctly. If this will not help, I`ll have to put the original exhaust back and call it a wasted 800 EUR.

Is there an exhaust system for ST 4x4 adding good sound but making the car still usable on daily driving at all???

ordered JeDesign active flap exhaust for my 300 ST 4Drive, will come back with feedback in a couple of weeks after mounting it. the price was a lot higher than Fox but hopefully it will bring versatility (flaps closed - pretty quiet / flaps open - race mode)

Im actually looking into putting a new exhaust on my Cupra aswell since i would like to improve the sound of it..
However i dont really want that booming :(

Sad to hear about your experience but hopefully it might be "saveable" if you add the mid resonator?

I've added vwr r600 air intake, revo turbo muffler delete and revo turbo inlet hose to improve the sound of the engine and these mods made really nice difference but with exhaust its more tricky. I dont think that bsc is doing version for 4x4 cupra yet but thx for the je design tip. Really looking forward to hear your honest impressions :D

I was thinking the same that by adding the fox middle resonator will result in a bit higher freq sound but they've told me that it would get even worse. The sound on higher revs is good but at 1000 - 2000 its really annoying.

Sound proofing the boot and back door will not make a big difference on the ST for that kind of noise (low frequency) and on top of that you will add extra kilos. Talking from my own experience. Better spend the money on decent middle box that will make a bigger difference...

Do you think that exchanging the original middle box for different one will increase the frequency of sound and will get rid of the very low noises? I dont have any experience with that but it was my first question to company selling the exhausts. They've told me that it would get even worse wit it. Thanks.

see, this is very hard to say as the exhaust sets are very different. I have custom made, first it was without middle box, guy told to drive few days to see how it sounds, i was experiencing low frequency droning between 2-3k and i completely lost the comfort from driving. I came back and they install middle box which put this noise down and only making noise when accelerating . its still there on higher speeds but not as disturbing as it was at the start. You newer know how it will sound until you have it on. Here is the advantage of custom made exhausts, they can make it to your preferences until you happy with the final result. So maybe visit one of these specialist and ask them for advice...

Thanks for sharing your experience with exhaust upgrade. I have done the best available soundproofing of the boot and also the back seats (had to be removed) and front doors yesterday and I am surprised how big difference it is! The really annoying super deep noise/droning at 1-2k is gone! The sound of the exhaust is now more solid, stronger and surprisingly seems louder but not so annoying! I have ordered the middle resonator anyway but even this upgrade made the daily driving more comfortable.

Glad that you sorted it out, what sound proof products (brand) have you applied? Maybe useful for the future

So do I! :) Its really much better now, still no 100% perfect but I can use the car without being annoyed by that sound. They have used 6 different materials on it, Neoprene 6, STP Accent 10, STP Biplast 10, STP Biplast 5, STP Black Gold, STP Black Silver.

I`ll try to post some pictures, not sure if it will work, we`ll see :)

Nice job, i see you have the matt applied on the boot floor, doesn't this stoping the bass from the woofer?

Not at all, actually I had to decrease the level of sub a bit because it felt stronger and more solid after the installation. But i dont listen music too much in the car to be honest :).

ordered JeDesign active flap exhaust for my 300 ST 4Drive, will come back with feedback in a couple of weeks after mounting it. the price was a lot higher than Fox but hopefully it will bring versatility (flaps closed - pretty quiet / flaps open - race mode)

If you install this let us know. So far best sounding exhaust what i have seen in youtube for the cupra.

next week I will have it mounted, will post a video. I have already taken some videos with the stock one, will do new ones from the same angles for comparison.

I come back with my impressions on the JeDesign flap exhaust, I have it mounted for two days now. In terms of sound, I would rate the flaps closed mode to a 5-6 out of 10 in terms of loudness (original would be a 2 out of 10) while the Cupra mode/flaps open is a full hooligan mode something like a 9 out 10 with clear pops and bangs when revving down, strong roar on accel and loud dsg booms when upshifting (definitely not 'farts').

But, there are two issues... I am not completely happy with the look of the new tips (a bit too visible, could not be pushed to the inside like stock, they stand out). And the annoying part is the deep low frequency tone in low RPMs, and when cruising at highway speed. The only way to mute the noise is to set cruise control to 62 mph/100kmh, that is the sweet spot. Anything more comes with constant humming.

Will consider musli's option to soundproof the back, did itvreally make a difference or not ? Was it worth it or is it money thrown away and extra weight ?

In any way, I see a pattern with 4drive exhausts suffering from these low frequency tones, even stock it was the only thing I could hear in terms of sound.

Edit: if it weren't for these annoying low freq sound I would have considered it the perfect upgrade, even though expensive (close to 3k euros in total with labour)
