Pothole damage!!

Hello all..

I hit a flooded pothole 'looked like a puddle' last week in Scotland at around 40ish MPH.
The 'bang' caused the front assistance to become unavailable for a second or so.

No TPMS or bulges in the sidewalls, however there is now a slight vibration at 70mph.
I decide to get the front nearside wheel checked and it is now buckled!!
Plus the tracking is out on the nearside!!
Wheel has balanced out but the buckle to still there!

Wonder what the cost of a replacement 19inch Cupra 300 alloy will be!

Bloody shitty roads!

Annoyed..

yep, hit a pothole covered in snow yesterday and put a hole in the sidewall. fortunately they are my cheapish winter tyres but now i have to wait for a few days for a new tyre with a spacesaver on and we got 25cm of snow last night...

Did the same a few weeks after getting my 300, got it fully refurb for £100, I also asked Mike on here for a quote and this is what he came back with at the time:
RRP - £590.92 inc VAT

I can do you 25% off that - £443.20 inc VAT

I feel your pain! I hit one on Monday morning. It destroyed the tyre but thankfully the wheel damage seems to be cosmetic.

I had to get towed as the AA guy couldn't get his space saver to fit as the brake caliper (even the rear one) was fouling.

Managed to get a budget tyre fitted as I was way up in the Highlands so not much in the way of 19" tyre stock.

I have the return journey whenever the when the weather settles! Not looking forward to that!

Been there myself around after 3 months into my lease.
New tyre and wheel was required.

I was gutted as I was only doing 50 on the A57 (as I was driving back late and tired)

The road wasn't lit so it wasn't easy to see. The sound the impact made was terrible. The pressure warning came up instantly.

10 miles from home.

Ouch! Wonder if I need to get my tyre off to be inspected given the obvious internal damage to yours.
What was the cost for the replacement alloy, and are you claiming off the council?

Cheers

The first pic is with the replacement tyre on.

I was originally quoted about £500 for the wheel.
The tyre was approx £150+ fitted.

In the end I think the wheel cost around £350.
This was back in 2016.I'd have to check my receipt to make doubly sure.
Luckily all the suspension checked out fine.

I never went back to check the exact location of the pot hole. I was told also that if I was the first to report it I wouldn't be compensated. I ended up leaving it, but obviously it's not been forgotten.

I've lost at least 3 tyres to potholes in the last 2.5 years on this car.

With various councils almost bankrupt, this issue is only going to get worse. I've no idea what happened to the extra money the government promised to fix all the potholes but there's no sign of any improvement in my area.

Put a claim in to the council, I did.
Need photo evidence of pothole and location.
If pothole is already marked yellow for repair find another one.
Council are obliged to check and log road condition but they never do, ask them for a copy of the latest report, they cant produce it.
My council got shitty til i mentioned the above, had cheque 3 days later.

Wish I'd had known the process back then. This looks like good advice.

They either spot fix them or lay down the new tarmac that melts in the hot sun and seems to develop pot holes in no time at all.

Saying that there is seemingly alot more cars on the roads now..

Took my wheel off to fix a puncture... And found this...

Took it to a wheel repair place near me and they straightened it for £58..
I was amazed at what they said they could fix before having to scrap a wheel..

Our local council has just spent a load replacing the pavements. Potholes on the roads everywhere. Perhaps they have more claims from pedestrians tripping over than motorists damaged wheels!
