I've recently acquired a set of 18" Ronal Cupra R alloy wheels from one of my breakers to go on my FR TDI and will be getting them refurbished in the next few weeks but was wondering about tyre sizes.
The stock tyres on them are 225/40/18 and plan to replace them all with a decent set of 4 matching ones but am a littke concerned that I'm going to lose some comfort with the lower profile and admittedly did find the drive home in this particular LCR a bit firm for my liking.
After checking sone online tyre calculators it appears if was to opt for a slightly wider tyre ie. 235 it would also increase the profile marginally.
This in turn would give me an extra 5mm ground clearance, 5mm less arch gap and hopefully a touch more compliance whilst rolling over these hideously potholed roads.
Apparently the gearing and speedometer effect would be neglible to which is obviously quite important.

Id be interested to hear anyone's first hand experiences of upping the size of their tyres on the mk1 LCR.

How did find them, did they look too wide on the 7.5" rim or fine?

Did the steering become any heavier?

Pictures would also be appreciated.

No mk1 came with 235 profile tyres from the factory.
The standard tyre size on my FR TDI is 225/45/17
Are you referring to the mk2 Leon?

225/45/17 and 225/40/18 are standard.
Go for standard, your car will be uncomfortable eather way, but at least 225/40/18 will look better.
