Okay so as work on my Cupra R has now started, thought I would start a progress thread. Not sure how often I will update it as I’m useless for this sort of thing but hey ho, lets see how far I get.

So here’s a few pics of my car as I bought it, for £1500. Rough round the edges, bit of a bodged Car really and not boosting at all.

Changed all the sensors, investigated everything and couldn’t get it boosting again, in the end, new ecu and map and she’s all sorted.
So now I know the car works and runs etc, it’s time for the strip down and rebuild. I didn’t want to rebuild it and spend lots and then find out it still wasn’t boosting or working right.

I’ll get more pics when I can but currently the car has no front steering, suspension or subframe as they’re all off. subframe, wishbones and knuckles are currently in for powder coating, big plans for it. Just money as always haha.
Will update more with pics as and when I can!

Letting it set and dry overnight then a final coat of paint tomorrow! Going to clean up the dog bone mount tomorrow, respray it and fit the polybushes.

Pretty clean. Good buy for £1500. What you got planned for the car?

Was a good buy but I spent a good few hundred trying to solve the boost issue, sensors and all sorts but turns out it was just ecu and map which cost me £120 haha.

Want 280-300bhp from it, so once ive resprayed and refurbed the suspension and steering, engine is coming out for a full rebuild, front mount, decat etc. Battery and washer bottle inside the car, bucket seats, half cage etc. Just all waiting on me earning the money to buy the bits haha!

Good stuff so far! Nice to see you doing a thorough clean up.

I gave my arches a good clean up when I had the alloys off to paint them. Didn't think of giving them a coat of underseal though. Might do that myself.

Cheers:thumbup: Yeah man definitely worth it, rust protection and looks miles better! Will be doing full underside of the car too and inner wings of the engine bay when I get to it!

Little bit of progress tonight but not a lot as waiting for parts currently.

Another coat of paint in the arches:

Cleaned and (sort of) polished the steering rack today too, awaiting the Black POWERFLEX bush for the rack to arrive now!

Nothing exciting really still. The Parts getting powdercoated, only a few have been shot blasted so far and still awaiting them back. Slow progress waiting for polybushes to arrive and these parts to get painted.
Bought some second hand coilovers a while back, stripped them down to clean up and grease etc....both adjusters seizes solid (not unusual) but then one of the shocks makes a grinding noise when turning and is really wobbly in its housing. FML.
So sending them back to pro sport to be rebuilt/replaced.

Bits that have been shot blasted ready for powdercoat, all these going black:

Awaiting these parts then the anti roll bar and springs are all being done red and the knuckles being done a grey colour.
Lots of polybushes and calipers rebuild kit on order at mo, calipers will be getting new seals then powdercoated red too.

That’s going to look the business.

Cheers mate. I hope so! Every part is getting rebuild/renewed/upgraded. Hoping to do it properly first, no rush to use the car so can take my time. I just cant wait till its finished so i can get out in it:1st:

Got some bits back today! Few issues, 1 is fitting the powerflex black subframe bushes, they’re so tight I can’t do it. I push the metal collar in and it pushes the bottom half of the bush out and cannot get it to go in properly, any ideas?

Also not sure if I’ve mounted the anti roll bar the right way round, just got excited and buzzed it all on, sat back and looked at it like not sure if that’s right hahha. Can anyone confirm?
Also could someone confirm the dogbone mount is the right way round too haha? Cheers!

I’ll let the pictures do all the talking.....

So nearly 12 hours on the car today. What a long day.

Doesn’t look like I did much but nothing I did was straight forward or friendly to me today!

Stripped rear brakes, suspension, axle off, exhaust and rear bumper off the car. I jet washed the full underside of the car, snow foamed it and jet washed it again. Going to underseal the full lot tomorrow. Found a few spots of rust in the arches though so sanded those back and put some etch primer on them tonight, but that’s as far as I got as I ran out of light.
Got the grinder out and cleaned up the rear axle too which I will spray myself tomorrow, be a pain to get powdercoated so clean up and spray myself will have to do!

Found the hanger on the backbox is cracking off the exhaust though so need to get that welded, need to rebuild the rear calipers and get the dust shield, calipers and carriers all powdercoated.
New bearings, abs sensors and braided hoses all on order, I already have coilovers for the rear.
Need to save up for a rear arb too!
Here’s a few pics:

Not as long out in the sun today as I burnt bright red yesterday lol but another wire brush, jet wash and a few coats of black underseal and paint to the rear arches, back panel and full underside of the car. Gave the axle a layer of etch primer too and a layer of black paint but ran out! So will have to sort that another day! But looking good now! Rear bumper can go back on now.

No pictures unfortunately but Whiteline, 3-way adjustable rear arb has been purchased and picking it up tonight. That will then be going in for powdercoating, along with all 4 calipers and the rear brake dust shields. Rear arb and calipers all going red, dust shields just going black.

Went to start stripping the front brembos last night, snapped a bleed nipple:banghead: So gone into the local engineering place who reckons 9/10 he can drill them out and tap them and get it as good as new so fingers crossed! Got new seals waiting to go in, just need to strip them, powdercoat, then they can be rebuilt. Same with the rears!
So excited to get this thing finished so I can feel how tight it feels and well it corners, should be a well sorted car:drive1:

Cleaned up the pins and spring plates from the calipers too, half hour with some scotch brite....

Finally, got bored at work today and I’m handy on photoshop so decided to create a design I MIGHT put into real life. What do we all think? I reckons it’s marmite, I can’t decide if I like it or not.
Gloss black (standard paint) front end, matte black rear end with gold stripe to compliment the gold Bola B1 wheels.
