Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade the standard stereo in my FR 2009 facelift model which I recently bought. The car does not have Bluetooth currently so guessing it will not have the module or mic installed. I have the white large MFD with a standard stereo with aux and USB.

Just wondering the following which i can't find specifically answered on any old threads:
- Does the RNS510 need a Bluetooth module or is it built in? I want it for streaming music and hands free.
- As I do not currently have Bluetooth standard, do I need to install a mic?
- Is the RNS510 plug and play or will i need vagcom in the facelift model to get it working with the white MFD and steering wheel controls?
- Is there anything else I need or is it just the GPS antenna?
- Will I be able to use the existing aux and USB?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there

I had a the rns 510 fitted into my 2007 leon fr so I'm not sure if it needs coding etc.

What i can say is that the unit does not have bluetooth fitted. You will have to use something independent like an io device or a parrot kit. I use an io play 2 kit which does the job brilliantly.

Regards the connectors. Mine was the standard quad lock but i need to change the pins round for my aux input to work. Other than that ive not had any issues.

I would suggest the rns 310 or 315 if u want a unit with bluetooth but they do have smaller screens.

Hope that helps.

Just to add to that, I have an rns310 in my 2010 Cupra R and it has Bluetooth but I am unable to stream music through it not sure on the rns315...

Current - MK2 Leon Cupra R 2010
Previous - MK2 Leon FR 2007

RNS315 can definitely do bluetooth music streaming.
RNS510 can do bluetooth streaming if a compatible bluetooth module is installed.
My 2012 FR had a RCD310 and I upgraded to an RNS510 and the existing bluetooth module under the drivers seat worked perfectly.
Really a RNS315 is probably the way to go - it has DAB which very few RNS510s have and I never used the DVD playback on the 510 which is really the only benefit of it.

Thanks for the replies. So does the 315 not need the Bluetooth module? In two minds whether to go OEM or for a pioneer aftermarket unit with a connects2 steering control adapter but would be good to have the MFD working with the stereo. Shame the 315 have smaller screens.

I read that thread but wasn't clear on the Bluetooth front when there is no module. Will have to check the wiring loom to see if I could just add the module.

Hi bud welcome

I have just bought a 2010 fr about 2 months ago same problem mp3 headunit no Bluetooth.

The rns510 doesn't come with built in Bluetooth or Mic so will be around £200 for the module and then extra for the install unless you DIY and I got my Mic for £8 on eBay works great so I have been told.

I bought the rns 315 for £200 comes with Bluetooth built in and Sat nav I also have a spare fr double din fascia if you want it save you a few quid.

Ah thanks for the response. Don't understand why aftermarket stereos can fit everything in the head unit but seat can't!

Do you know what the Bluetooth module you have got which is compatible? I'll take a look on eBay for prices. That's a lot of money if it's 200-300 for the headunit and then 200 for the module!

I might take you up on the fascia. What colour is it?

Oh yeah, just re-read your message. The screen looks bigger than I thought. Does the 315 fully integrate with the MFD?

I will double check and let you know I believe it does but never checked I will take a couple pics today.

Yea screen is a good enough size for me and as I say I will post the eBay link to the Mic I got was only £8 uk seller too so fast recorded shipping. I just ran in behind the glove box up the upper a pillar I didn't remove the headlining as I ran it along the windscreen into the centre light and pulled it through so all wired are hidden and Mic is in OEM place.

Strange I fitted a RNS315 into a friends 2009 Leon and it definitely supports A2DP as well as AVRCP which means full track names and playback controls.
And with a couple of coding changes in VCDS it integrated with the MFD

Yeah, I think you may be right actually. The forum I was reading must have been wrong as just found a site with the spec.

Looks like this is the easiest to fit so will be going for this.

The RNS510 needs the 9w2 Bluetooth module which are around another £100 on top of headunit and harness is another £10-15.

Anyone got any suggested mics and GPS antennas for the 315?
