WLTP Affecting Cupra 300 Order

I ordered my new Cupra 300 5DR DSG on 10th February for delivery on 1st September on a 68 plate.
I have received a call from the dealer this morning saying that due to new WLTP regulations, my car will need to be registered by 31st August on an 18 plate.

Has anyone else had a similar call? If so, what are your thoughts?

Frustratingly I've also found out that I have been bought "CU68 PRA" as a present for my birthday, which obviously I won't be able to use now :(

I'd challenge back on this - Not convinced this is a valid reason.

From my (limited) understanding of this, all it means is that the CO2 figures of the vehicle will be need to be classified under the WLTP regulations and that it will need to pass a more stringent test on other emissions.

So if the Cupra 300 needs to me registered prior to the 1st September due to WLTP, it must mean the car can't pass these tests. Which means a new version of the Cupra 300 would need to be released.

Most manufacturers are ahead of the game on these emissions, so I'd of expected the VAG group to be no exception.

I suspect the dealer may have sold you the car on the tax costing prior to the 1st September, and that due to changes coming the costs will be higher come 1st September and they're trying to wangle out of them.

Its happening with a huge number of cars from virtually every manufacturer.

All new models introduced after 1st Sept 2017 have had to be tested under WLTP, any car on sale after 1st Sept 2018 cannot be registered - its black and white and manufacturers have known about it for a long time - can only presume that Seat do not believe the test for the Cupra 300 will have been completed in time.

Once a car is tested under the WLTP test that it can be sold

Any cars built by the end of May 2018 must be registered by 31st December 2018. The manufacturers are/have been pushing to get this extended, but are not having any luck.

Any cars built in June/July/August have to be registered by 31st August 2018.

(Yes, we know that's madness, but it's what we have to deal with!)

SEAT UK sent an e-mail out to the network recently with instructions that any orders not already confirmed for production, where it is known the car is wanted for 1st September or later, need to have the 'customer required date' changed to 01/09/18 or later so that the factory know not to build the car in June/July/August (or at least not before WLTP production starts, which could be earlier than September).

That makes more sense than not being told you have to have a car not built yet before the 1st.

So what does it mean for me in your opinion. I ordered 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing from anyone?

Hi mate, have you asked them to clarify that your engine is definitely affected by WTLP? The manuals have ceased production, but I can still order a DSG without any problems.

Ordering is not the issue. When the car is built is the issue. Re-read (or just read) the whole thread rather than just the opening post and your question has already been answered.

We ordered an Audi A1 end of March for Sept delivery. Car was re-ordered by the dealer as it was going to get to the dealer too early so is now being built in late July. A couple of weeks ago the dealer sent me a disclaimer to sign. In essence, stating I would be happy to accept the car even though the emissions and mpg will change under WLTP.
