Reject New Ateca?

Hey guys,

After trading in my Cupra 280 (one of the most regrettable choices ever) for a brand new Ateca I've had nothing but hassle with it!

The main issue is the Sat-Nav which is included as a pricey model upgrade to SE Tech.

It's never worked from day one, 2 SD cards later and it's still not working. The dealer has ordered another two to try on Monday (V5 & V6) No joke!

I've had a courtesy car for 8 days and it's been in for another 2 days without courtesy car and they now need it in again on Monday for a day again. They have opened a case with SEAT regarding this.

I'm getting so fed up, also the rear speakers are total cack but no fault found. I don't know if they are weaker than the Leon and you really have to slam the doors/boot to close them. I was given this excuse "the size of the car creates a vacum, if you open the window it will close no problem" I had to bite my tongue!

Anyways, I took delivery of the car on 20th April and now thinking of rejecting the car and doing what I should've done and wait for the Cupra R ST!

Have any of you guys rejected a new car?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've never rejected a new car but I think you have a valid reason to reject - the sat nav not working. I believe that usually you have 30 days to reject the car which might have expired if you count from the delivery date. However, you should be able to discount the days (10?) when you haven't had the car, which would leave you still within the claim period.

It might be worth telling the dealer that you plan to reject the car if it's not fixed, which I suspect will help get it resolved more quickly. In any event, I would suggest that you take action soon otherwise it may be more difficult to reject.

Edit - you can probably still reject outside the 30 days, but you would need to allow the dealer one attempt to fix it - and it sounds as though you've already given quite a long time already to sort it.

From a legal perspective - this is how you stand:

"Any product you buy should be of ‘satisfactory quality’ and in the case of a car you can reasonably expect it to:

  • - Get you from A to B without breaking down
  • - Work as expected without any faults
  • - Be as described in any advert, brochure or order sheet
If the car fails to meet one or more of those criteria and the dealer hasn’t been able to remedy it, you’re within your rights to reject it as being of unsatisfactory quality. Your rights were previously protected by the Sales of Goods Act but anything bought since October 2015 is covered by the Consumer Rights Act, which is subtly different and works a little more in your favour.

Assuming the car you’ve bought was purchased after October 2015, if it goes wrong within the first 30 days of ownership, you can simply reject it out of hand for a full refund. If a fault develops after those 30 days but within the first six months, the dealer gets one chance to fix it. If they fail to do this, you’re entitled to a full refund, or a partial refund after the use you’ve had of the car has been taken into account."

I would not expect Seat to roll over and accept this without a fight - its not what manufacturers do I'm afraid

I was also thinking along those lines. I'm going to give them this last chance. I should really start the rejection process but from what I've read it seems to be a bit of a mine field.

I was thinking about taking all the paperwork/keys etc along to the dealer and leave it with them.

I really want to wash my hands of this car.

It's partly my fault as I have always bought with Fife Seat and they have always been amazing but I jumped ship to Arnold Shark to save a few quid and build time. I've been well and truly bitten with their 'after care' I had to call SEAT to get a courtesy car as they claimed they had none for over a month. I quickly received a call from Shark saying they had one available so I was driving about in a Fiat 500X! It was a lovely peach colour though haha.

I know if I took the car to Fife Seat they would've had it fixed in no time, actually they wouldn't have let it leave the showroom with the problem in the first place! I hesitate to take it to Fife Seat as I feel I have betrayed them just to save a few quid!

I know, the thing is that the I got a really good quote for my trade in and a decent deal on the Ateca but I forgot to get a brochure for the better half so I popped into the local SEAT dealer in Uphall to pick one up and got chatting to the sales guy, at the end of the chat he came up with a car with more extras and nearly 1k cheaper with immediate delivery as it was the actual car in the showroom.

I feel that I have broken my relationship with Fife! I know I shouldn't feel like that!

Can I ask what's wrong with Sat nav, as my 66plate cupra 290st has never worked properly, it will only allow 4 digits , soon as you add a 5th it can't find anywhere, I've been dealing with seat for about 4mths inc sd cards ec but no joy and seat technical are always trying to wiggle out of it

It seems to be a different issue, my Sat-Nav has never worked from day one. The original SD card that was supplied with the car was displaying 'no navigation database available' or something along those lines and that was it.

The 2nd card booted up the navigation but the location was locked appx 50 miles away in the middle of the sea and will not detect my position.

Apparently the dealer tried another GPS antenna from another car in stock and the same problem occured.

I'm surprised they haven't ordered a new head unit and tried that. Also like someone else suggested if you keep the car you can take it to any seat garage you like for repairs/servicing.

As above, my dealer have been pushing for media unit but as seat have changed so many there not being very cooperative and keep telling master tech to send in different reports to there portal or blaming master tech for going through wrong procedures, it's been a nightmare

Hi mate, our local dealer is also the same as yours in uphall, we picked up our LEON ST on the 23rd, 3 days after you, I have used the SEAT satnav once, I know it works but Google maps looks a million times better and works a million times better than it, although ours works, the android auto and mirror linking is sketchy as hell, sometimes I have to hold in the power button to totally restart the head unit for it to work (sometimes twice on the same journey) , when it does work its actually okay, it doesn't seem to like fast touches or trying to change song track up and down to find a track you like while using deezer through the android auto app, (I have an insignia estate curtousey car, with the same android auto app and that has just worked flawlessly since we got it) the car has been away since Saturday the 12th May, (a reversing lorry liked the look of our passenger door) front wing and rear door also being blended to match the mystery blue paintwork. Maybe it's a curse? But in all seriousness, from start to finish of ordering the car (16 weeks for a bog standard FR ST) it wasn't a great experience.

I also have Android auto and would use it over the standard app every time but I also find it a bit clunky especially with the USB cable etc.

Usual stuff from that mob. I'm okay taking a car from them as they can be a lot cheaper than other places but dealing with their after care is shocking. I'm always chasing them, not a peep from them in two weeks and finally when they returned my call I found out that they had already received one card. Got a feeling they are trying to stall me as they know I'm unhappy with this mess!

That's a bummer about your Leon, I hope they manage to fix it quickly and more importantly correctly.

I'm either getting it back today or tomorrow, I just hope it matches the same blue paint, i hope you get yours sorted, I would only be wanting a new head unit if they can't resolve it.

Fingers crossed that the paint match works out. I'd be checking mega thoroughly and would not accept even the slightest blemish on it!

I'm in the process of researching my rights and I will be contacting SEAT customer service as this is the last chance. If it comes to it I will get another SEAT but not from them!

Let us know how the repair went when you get your car back!

Its not likely to be an SD card issue that is causing the nav not to operate properly. If you try two and it doesn't work any have decent Engineer would jump to the logical conclusion that its a hardware fault.

It does seem to be the case that the doors take more force to close than some of us are used too. Its a pet hate of mine, people slamming car doors, but unlike my Leon which closed easily, my Ateca needs more force to close the doors and boot lid. Its just the way they are I think. Hopefully in time as the seals relaxe a bit the doors will ease up.

My doors close fine. The tailgate the virtual pedal style and that works fine although did have the issue in 2016 of a production fault that they all had for that period. They fixed. Some people's opened by themselves.

There do seem to be more issues with the standard Navigation that I read about. Sticking in the wrong card and not configurating it occurs a lot. So I'm not so sure it wouldnt be that... but then when it says no navigation installed, that's the card not configured to the unit. You should see 9 - 12 satellites on that menu, should lock on 9 or so. If you aren't seeing that number then I'd say the gps aerial isn't in correctly or nill satellites. That's a menu option before you put in the destination.

Shows you are in the middle of the sea or back in Germany. Latter is a reboot. Former could be a problematic Here Maps location. There are some.

Bit worrying since I'm considering the standard Navigation on the Tarraco for reasons that Seat UK won't offer Mapcare, got the Plus at the minute. I do have Seat Sound which is fine.

I'd switch the dealer for warranty work. My current dealer is fine, the one I came from was terrible so I switched the dealer when I got the Ateca. The problem with dealers if it is just a normal service then you might think they are fine. Give them the benefit of the doubt once say, but when they don't tighten bolts, prospect for work etc. That dealer went out of business, wasn't just me. The dealer I had for 10 years in MK was fine. Back in London rubbish.

Hi mate, got my car back today from the repairers, they had to blend the back door and the front wing, I think stevie wonder could have done a better job blending, I gave it a wash and a wax and it doesn't seem as bad as I first thought, before this I phoned them up telling them I wasn't happy, they told me to email them pictures, I have done so and I'm just waiting nowon them getting back to me, actually the repair work is not bad, the thing that's pissed me off more is the massive swirls where they have tried to blend it. Once I got back behind the wheel, I actually love the car, the gears go in as they should, nice and firm on the gear stick, and not even half as heavy as the insignia estate we had.

Jeezo, that doesn't sound so good! Hopefully they will sort it out for you, keep at them!

You could always take it to a detailer to get an inspection/opinion of the work so you have something to go with. I'd recommend Stevie from SG Detailing, he's based in Livingston and he will give you an honest opinion. I've used him for paint correction/detailing on my previous Cupra.

I have the joy of going back to them on Monday, honestly feels like I'm never away from there!
