Engine Stutter/Misfire

Hello all,

I will state it now so that everyone knows from the off. I am useless with cars, luckily for me someone had a very very similar issue to me previously on here (part of the reason i signed up!) so here is the link to his issue as the way he describes everything is a hell of a better than "the big metal thing makes a noise"

Bit of a backstory, I have a lease Scirocco going back to VW at the end of the month so was looking at Cupra's and after a lot of searching and dealing with absolute morons, I found one that looked nice, and drove nice, and the chap wasn't a complete arse so I took the jump. On the test drive, drove a dream, pulled like a train, everything was good. Drive home, still good, happy chap. A few days later when giving it some everything started to go wrong. I had lost all boost power and to cut a long story short, I thought the MAF sensor was playing up but after swapping it, the issue was still there and later found, under some heat shielding, a boost pipe had popped off, once this was back on boost was back and happy again. This is the point where I'm now experiencing the issues in the forum post above.

In regards to the parts he said he's changed on the original post - i haven't.
Still the coils that the chap had in, haven't swapped the spark plugs but it does have a new MAF and a new battery (had to jump it a few times after short journeys so for the sake of 40 quid, I just changed the battery to see if it helps)

It has been to a few garages, the first few couldn't help in the slightest, a chap I know who has always helped me out with every car I've had, he has told me that oil is getting into cylinder 3 and 4 and causing misfires on those and thats where the problem is - this only happens if the car is driving around town, in traffic slowly, or if you've left it to idle for 10-20 minutes. Give it a quick blast, it will have the stutter and all that mentioned, throw a load of shite out the back, and eventually run normal again. If i'm giving it some, or down A/B roads, I haven't had any problems yet - its happy going quicker! (some would say whats the problem haha!)

I could go 100% off this old post and try and replicate his fixes and see if it fixes mine too, but the point of this post is to get some opinions and to see if any of you have also had this problem, or something similar, and if you have, what it was you did to fix it.

The car is going to a SEAT specialist Friday morning, he did mention about swapping the coils and sparks - he is going to get some genuine ones and as I know him, is going to try and get his employee discount on them, bonus!
I'm also going to ask him to check the map of the car, as I personally think its been absolutely maxxed out and could be half the problem. I didn't notice this to start off with, but when i tried to replicate the issue for someone to look at it, the lumpiness, it's literally spitting out the exhaust oil and unburnt petrol according to him. I don't care if any of you call me a plonker for buying a heap of junk... as that might be exactly what I've done!! I will try and answer anything you guys ask, but you might have to be a bit patient with me ha!

So to update any of those interested..

The specialist that had my car was a legend tbh! Charged me the "inspection" charge which essentially should have been a quick look over to produce an expensive list for me to sign my life away to pay for.
In reality, he spent much longer than usual on it, found that a few pipes i missed had a few leaks due to poor clips etc.
Removed the throttle body and cleaned it so it looks new.
Had the diag computer on, and mentioned that there was a misfire on 4, could be down to a faulty coil (haven't changed yet)
Also, loaded up and checked the map. I thought part of the problem could have been down to a shite map from the previous owner but he put me at ease as he told me it was a decent map that's been done.

On just starting the car up i could tell that it's much better than it was. Able to idle fine now, no hunting revs anymore etc.
I did give it a blast on the way back, a proper blast through all the gears and unfortunately it did start the misfire/splutter again with the EML flashing again. This makes me think it's still something with the turbo, maybe the seals as i did have a big cloud of blueish smoke for a while. After 10 minutes it did start to idle normal again, but just with the smoke still. Drove absolutely fine on the rest of the way back (with the smoke)

All I needed from this is a working car due to moving out in two weeks and lease car going back next week, and I now have that. If I go easy with the right foot, nothing up with the car at all. Further down the line though I will be getting the turbo either looked at or replaced and I think that should be the end to the problems i have, fingers crossed!!

I've had a similar issues, I think mine is down to the ignition coil leads though. I have a very slight fluctuating idle (sometimes) and an intermittent misfire. Having in plugged and replugged the coil on cylinder 4 I've got another 5 days without a misfire.

Happened twice in this scenario, drive home from work (15 min drive in traffic) get home, get changed etc for the gym, which i leave for about 10 minutes afters getting home, when i start the car to leave again, it just doesnt feel right starting, and the revs instantly drop to 500rpm, feels like its about to stall but JUST stays running. No response at all from the throttle, but after about a minute if it being like this, pressing the throttle rises the revs, ridiculously slowly and once you get it over 1k, it acts normal. The car will drive absolutely fine once you've got it past this stage, really really strange to me!
Wondering if it could be something linking about to the ignition coils / leads etc. The car has a brand new battery on so i find it hard to believe its that.

Could be a leak, have you had it scanned? Any lights come up on the dash? Any black electric tape covering lights? Get it scanned mate, check for codes and go from there, no codes, smoke test would be my next move.

Agree with Andrew, have fault codes read.
Could be a leaking hose or dirty throttle body/ coils.

Specialist sounds expensive mate, these cars are pretty simple and don't really need much knowledge to work on. Just don't go and pay loads of money for what could be a simple fix.

try seal reviver not sre who makes it think stp as might just have a leaking seal...or could just be getting rid of all **** accumulated while sick....give it a full service fresh oil and engine flush....might just tweek it back …..

Try putting cable ties round the coil pack plugs, I had an intermittent misfire issue for months turns out the plugs were loosing connection where they plug in.
