The cup holder sin the mk3 are absolutely shite. Even the one that does fit a can is shite.

Think your only option is to buy one that clips into the vents. Tonnes of different designs etc in eBay

I agree, a waste of valuable real- estate....
I now balance my tall travel mugs on the passenger seat adjustment lever.

Then wedge my work bag against.

Works pretty well. No issues tipping over. I do this with my 20floz and 24floz travel mugs... All other sizes fit in the oem holes... But then again anything smaller than 20floz isn't worth using as it's just a mouthful of coffee....

Thankfully mine fits in the cup holder, but you have to move the armrest right back to do this. I miss my cup holder in my old ep3, that was well placed. Right hand side of steering wheel in front of air vent so could be kept cool if AC was on and hidden.

Saying that, the mk5 golf had it well placed and hidden too and you got two

Somewhere
i know, but same issue with reusable mugs, only 1 fits ...

FYI: Some cups are biodegradable

WRONG.

The paper is, but not the plastic coating (plastic polyethylene) that stops it getting soggy. There isn't a 100% paper cup on the market... because paper isn't waterproof.

So - all those the paper cups you've been putting in the bin? They go to landfill, just like plastic cups.

Or at least, 99.75% of them do! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-43739043
